Job Summary

This position plays a critical role in managing and ensuring compliance on all taxes applicable to UGI Utilities, Inc. and other BU's as assigned. This role also plays a critical role in accounting for income taxes including considerations required by the regulated nature of the utility. This includes managing the regulated tax depreciation and deferred taxes, as well as crucial involvement in preparation of Rate Case and other regulatory filings. The position will have responsibility for managing, monitoring, tracking, and reporting various International, Federal, State, and Local tax compliance obligations. Tax research and special projects as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Sr. Manager of Natural Gas Tax Accounting with accounting for income taxes in accordance with ASC740 which includes:
  • preparation of the quarterly and year-end effective tax rate and income tax entries
  • reconciliation of tax related accounts
  • preparation of the tax basis balance sheet support
  • preparation of the provision to return calculations.
  • preparation of tax estimates for budget and forecast purposes
  • Support the Regulatory Accounting and Rates groups with regulatory tax reporting including quarterly and annual FERC, annual PUC, rate case filings, and other requests.
  • Managing the preparation of tax packages for the filing of federal and state income tax returns. Preparation of quarterly estimated tax calculations.
  • In coordination with service provider, managing the federal and state non-income tax filings and non-income tax related audits
  • Assist with ad hoc projects, process improvement initiatives, etc.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with tax compliance and reporting requirements and deadlines, specifically ASC740
  • Experience with income tax accounting, generally accepted accounting principles, and SOX to perform key controls over financial reporting.
  • Prior experience in a corporate tax group or tax accounting firm and the ability to recognize potential issues and to communicate accordingly.
  • Ability to work across disciplines such as payroll, accounts payable, plant accounting and G/L accounting in the finance department as well as other applicable departments to gather information.
  • Requires excellent time management and organizational skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • 5+ years of tax experience in Corporate Tax or Public Accounting environment
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or taxation or MBA a plus
  • CPA preferred
  • Regulated utility experience preferred
