The Office of the District Attorney is currently accepting applications for the position of

DEPUTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY III
ABOUT THE POSITION:
Deputy District Attorney III is the journey level class of its series. Incumbents share with higher level attorneys in prosecuting cases consisting of murder, conspiracy, sexual assault, or fraud; these cases involve a high degree of public interest and complex legal principles. A Deputy District Attorney III may also supervise a team of junior deputies in the performance of crime trial work.
Education and/or Experience:

Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California; AND,
  • One (1) year of experience as a Deputy District Attorney II in the County of San Diego, or at an equivalent level with another California County or city agency; OR,
  • Three (3) years of experience as an attorney at an equivalent level in the practice of criminal and/or civil law.

    INTERVIEWS AND HIRING PROCESS:
    Job offers for selected candidates will be made shortly after the interview process is completed. Candidates should be prepared to immediately complete background paperwork, upon receipt of a job offer.

    The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below. Please note that dates are approximate and are dependent upon the successful completion of each step of the process.
    • Job Offer and Background Process begins: Shortly after the interviews.
    • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
    • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of background or other mutually agreed upon date.

    CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
    As part of the County of San Diego's pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
