This vacancy is located at SCLHSA's River Parishes Behavioral Health Center located in Laplace, LA.
This position serves as the Supervisor of the nursing component of a Behavioral Health Center. This incumbent will provide behavioral health nursing care to adults and children serious and persistent behavioral health conditions. This incumbent may interact with clients exhibiting resistances, non-compliance, diminished cognitive processes or ability to reason, and hostility. This incumbent will function as part of a Multidisciplinary Treatment Team.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse plus one of the following:

Three years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A bachelor's degree in nursing plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A master's degree in nursing or public health plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A doctorate in nursing or public health plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse.

To provide first line supervision of nursing services either in a clinical, educational, or programmatic setting.

General from an RN Supervisor B or other higher level personnel.

Direct over lower level registered nurses, paraprofessional and/or professional personnel.

Examples of Work
25% Supervision
  • Provides direct supervision to nursing staff (RN, LPN). Schedules staff, approves leave, sets work standards, monitors performance, and ensures that necessary training is completed. Assures continued medical education is provided.
  • Monitors and manipulates provider schedules to ensure agency productivity standards and notifying clinic managers if issues.
  • Ensures nursing staff meet competency measures.
  • Completes PES on subordinate staff within Civil Service and agency timeframes.

20% Coordination of Care
  • Facilitates clinical processes to assist prescribers in managing their schedules and providing services. Resolves scheduling conflicts as needed.
  • Coordinates with SCLHSA pharmacy, private pharmacies, and insurers to relay prescription info, obtain authorization, and monitor medication utilization.
  • Coordinates services between agencies such as emergency medical transport hospitals, nursing homes, and law enforcement as they pertain to client healthcare.
  • Ensures documentation is completed concurrently with each service and/or receipt of updated information.

20% Nursing Assessment
  • Provides comprehensive, accurate nursing assessments to determine mental health, substance abuse, risk assessment, and medical needs in both an outpatient clinic setting and telemedicine.
  • Appropriately performs steps in taking vital signs and measurements and records them accurately.
  • Performs and interprets laboratory results such as rapid HIV testing/counseling, pregnancy test, and urine drug testing.
  • Observes client, records significant conditions and reactions and notifies supervisor or physician of client's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
  • Documents services, contacts and other relevant information accurately in the approved formats and locations.
  • Performs CPR and first aid as needed in the event of a medical emergency.

20% Medication Management
  • Provides appropriate and accurate medication management services, medication administration, crisis intervention, and supportive counseling.
  • Adheres to the LA State Board of Pharmacy regulations regarding storage, security, distribution, and administration of medicines.
  • Demonstrates Proper Techniques for preparing, transporting, administering, and disposing of intramuscular medications. Maintains medication supplies by monitoring supply levels, expiration dates, facilitating medication orders, and assisting with patient assistance program application processes.

5% Education
  • Participates in client and family health teaching and discharge planning. Participates in educating the client.
  • Provides medication education, compliance, and supports to clients receiving medication.

5% Infection Control
  • Consistency and appropriately uses universal precautions during service delivery.
  • Consistency and appropriately uses accepted infection control measures including use of protective gear, disposal of bio-hazardous waste and sharps, and approved hand washing.

5% Other duties as assigned including participation in P&T Meetings.
