Job Posting Information
The City of Lincoln's Transportation and Utilities (LTU) Department is seeking an experienced leader for the role of Operations Group Leader for the 180-member Transportation Team. LTU is crucial in providing essential services such as transit, transportation, and utilities to keep the city functioning year-round. The Operations Group Leader will work closely with the Assistant Director for Transportation to oversee and direct the daily operations and strategic initiatives across key areas like Multimodal Operations, Asset Maintenance, and Heavy Fleet Asset Management.

This role presents an opportunity to shape the future of Lincoln's transportation system by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, driving process optimization, and supporting a team of professionals. Key responsibilities include leading the Transportation Team, fostering alignment and communication with other city departments and partners, and ensuring that team activities are efficient, safe, and on schedule.
The ideal candidate will possess strong management skills, a forward-thinking mindset, and a proven ability to lead complex projects. The role requires someone who can inspire innovation, promote adaptability, and drive continuous improvement while staying aligned with the evolving transportation landscape. What You'll Do:
  • Supervise and lead a team of diverse transportation professionals
    • Foster a positive team culture based on collaboration, safety, respect and inclusivity.
    • Provide guidance in the establishment and refinement of workflows, performance metrics and protocols to guide aligned team activities.
    • Help manage resources, schedules, workloads, and day-to-day operations to meet team goals, objectives, completion dates.
  • Foster and maintain positive, professional relationships with City officials, teammates, and the community at-large that we serve.
  • Lead and Support the Transportation Team's Incident Command Response.
  • Strategic Planning and Forecasting
  • Budget and Cost Control
  • Performance monitoring and Reporting
Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering plus four years of experience in the practice of civil engineering in a responsible supervisory capacity; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities and skills.

Necessary Special Requirements:
Registration as a Professional Engineer. If registered in another state, must obtain State of Nebraska registration within six months of appointment.
