The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities is seeking qualified candidates to fill an Engineer position. The selected candidate will provide project management and engineering support for water distribution/transmission facilities throughout the City of Richmond.

In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be sedentary, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.

The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities is seeking qualified candidates to fill an Engineer position. The selected candidate will provide project management and engineering support for water distribution/transmission facilities throughout the City of Richmond.
Duties include but are not limited to
- Reviewing project specifications and plans to ensure technical conformance, design completeness, and all aspects of the projects are in compliance with codes and regulations.
- Collecting, gathering, interpreting, and analyzing engineering data for projects.
- Performing both technical and administrative functions including attendance, facilitating and participation in departmental meetings, interagency meetings, project progress meetings and provide project status and resolve project issues.
- Reviewing and maintaining specifications, technical standards, and test procedures, operating/maintenance procedures related to water distribution system.
- Design and generate cost estimates for water distribution related projects.
- Reviewing, preparing, and maintaining project status/technical reports, permit applications, inspections, and other documents as needed.
- Managing and coordinating various phases of contract work with other City Departments and external vendors such as contractors, construction managers, consultants, equipment suppliers and other municipalities.
- Manage and maintain fire hydrant flow test inquires and data.
- Review design plans for permitting and energov inquiries.
Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering
LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Some assignments may require a valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License within 30 days of hire
PREFERRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering discipline.
- Strong fundamentals of engineering background.
- Experience or general knowledge of plumbing, mechanical systems, and construction practice.
- Proficient with AutoCAD.
- Some Project Management experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- General knowledge of construction practices; project management; and basic functions and operations of various types of mechanical plumbing/piping, pumps, valves, gates, weirs, hydraulics, and control systems.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; and technical writing; oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated abilities to assemble complex information for others; and work with a variety of individuals such as other employees, vendors, contractors, and citizens.
