Job Description

STC is a science and engineering research and services support company with proven expertise and experience spanning research, development, test, and evaluation in areas including aerospace engineering, earth and atmospheric sciences, chemical and biological defense, military systems and technology, and software development.

Responsibilities:
The Scientist will provide computational modeling, simulation, and analysis support to develop code, software, methods and/or physical experiments to visualize, track, and detect chemical, biological, explosive (CBE), and/or simulant vapor as they move through real or simulated environments. Quantify and qualify plume structures in wind tunnels and apply artificial intelligence and machine learning to navigate odor plumes.
  • Investigate the hydrodynamics of oscillating respiratory flows, perform numerical simulations to characterize inhalant and exhalant flows, and study the effects of turbulence on stand-off detection sensors
  • Design and conduct experiments related to aerosol and bioaerosol generation, measurement, characterization, and modeling
  • Develop and validate novel methods to meet specific project objectives
  • Provide operational support for aerosol experiments, including equipment setup and sample collection.
  • Ensure tools and analysis will support RDT&E studies from inception to result interpretation and publication
  • Remain current on related subjects in the literature and news.
  • Contribute to presentations, technical reports and research publications.


Compensation & Benefits:
  • Pay: $79k - $86k
  • Schedule: 40 hours per week
  • 401K with up to 4% employer matching contribution
  • 3 weeks (120 hrs/year) Paid Time Off (PTO), 11 Federal holidays, and Sick Leave

Job Requirements

Education:
Master's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related discipline (or BS with additional experience).

Job Requirements
  • U.S. Citizen eligible for a DoD security clearance
  • 3 years of experience in aerosol research
  • 3 years of experience performing computational modeling and simulation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new skills quickly, multitask, and complete work within schedule

Bonus points if you have:
  • Experience with operational equipment such as wind tunnels or aerosol exposure chambers
  • Advanced proficiency coding with Python or another object-oriented language
  • DoD Secret clearance
