Job Description

Purpose of Position:

Under the general administration of the Director of Nursing & Allied Health Professionals/ Children's Health Services and in collaboration with the Attending Pediatrician, coordinates, manages and provides care to pediatric patients in the Pediatric Ambulatory Care. Obtains histories, performs exams and formulates diagnosis of pediatric patients. Executes corrective therapeutic interventions as established within protocols mutually agreed upon by medical and nursing personnel

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Obtains focused history and social history
  • Performs a complete physical exam on a the pediatric patient
  • Assesses development stage
  • In collaboration with the Attending Pediatrician plans and implements therapeutic interventions, which include but are not limited to initiating treatment of condition, prescribing and adjusting medications, managing formula changes and enteral feedings
  • Manages patients by performing therapeutic, corrective or diagnostic procedures as necessary in response to patients' condition and in accordance with established protocols
  • Collaborates with other members of the medical team and other therapies in the management of patients requiring modifications of their medical plan


Minimum Qualifications
1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED); and
2. Current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner in area of specialty performing primary care services issued by the NYSED; and
3. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
