We need a seasoned leader who can effectively oversee both workforce relations and occupational health and safety, ensuring strong operational execution while driving alignment with our broader people and strategic plans.
A key requirement for this role will be the ability to translate our strategic goals into actionable plans-developing and executing initiatives that advance our people strategy, strengthen employee engagement, and enhance organizational culture. This leader will need to combine deep technical expertise with strong change management skills to move the organization forward, fostering a positive and high-performing work environment
Key Responsibilities:
Labour & Employee Relations Strategy:
Develop and execute a labour relations strategy that supports a high-engagement, in a workforce that is both non-union and also many staff represented by bargaining units, balancing compliance with employment and labour laws, while aligning the strategy with the overall goals for our people and our employee value proposition.
Provide expert guidance to leaders and HR team on complex employee relations issues, workplace investigations, and dispute resolution.
Identify emerging labour trends and risks, proactively addressing issues before they escalate.
Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on labour relations matters, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Lead collective bargaining and labour relations efforts, where applicable, and proactively mitigate risks of changing employment relationship.
Leadership support for the Manager of Labour and Employee Relations and team in handling grievance management, workplace investigations, and employment law compliance.
HR Business Partner Model
Oversee and re-imagine the HR and Occupational Health Business Partner model, ensuring the team is ready to provide proactive, strategic HR guidance to business leaders.
Partner with operational leaders to develop and implement workforce planning, talent retention, and engagement strategies.
Equip managers with tools and training to foster a positive work environment and mitigate employee relations risks.
Drive leadership capability and workforce engagement through training, coaching, and strategic policy development that supports a positive workplace culture.
Ensure consistency in HR policies and practices across the organization.
Occupational Health & Safety
Provide strategic leadership to the Manager of Occupational Health and Safety, ensuring compliance with workplace safety legislation and best practices.
Oversee the Occupational Health & Safety functions and programming, ensuring compliance with safety legislation, injury prevention strategies, and disability management programs.
Promote a strong safety culture through proactive risk management and employee education
Execute on operationalizing opportunities to do better with prevention strategies, safety culture and greater emphasis on equity and inclusion programs.
What you bring to the role:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
7+ years of progressive HR experience in healthcare, with expertise in labour relations strategy and employee relations.
Strong knowledge of employment and labour law, with experience in unionized and non-unionized healthcare settings.
Proven ability to develop and implement strategies to maintain a non-union environment.
Experience managing complex employee relations issues, workplace investigations, and dispute resolution.
Demonstrated leadership experience in managing multidisciplinary HR teams.
Strong stakeholder engagement, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
