Why does the job exist?

This position provide support and assists with mission-critical IT related responsibilities of the Information Technology Systems Bureau (ITSB) and all OSE/ISC staff. It reports to the ITSB Infrastructure Manager, who oversees both Infrastructure and End-User Services (IEUS), this position is aids with delivering IT support services for agency-wide storage, aid with application and data servers, networks, security, and operations for almost 400 employees statewide.

This position is responsible with assisting with documentation, maintenance of storage, servers, and virtual machines and it helps with user requests that are accurately logged, documented, and issues are resolved in a timely manner. Under the direct supervision of the IT Technical Manager, it will assist with documenting IEUS processes, services, and contribute to performance measures. It also assists the IT Systems Administrator II with ensuring the agency's IT infrastructure remains secure, resilient, and available to users.

How does it get done?

This position will assist with maintaining the critical IT infrastructure for OSE/ISC, and supporting approximately 400 employees statewide.

A significant portion of the job, focuses on helping the IT Systems Administrator Level II with ensuring the agency's
backup and disaster recovery efforts are met. This includes working with data/media recovering is completed, executing and monitoring data backups database archiving operations are performed, as well as aiding with regularly testing disaster recovery plans to ensure rapid restoration of services and data integrity in case of system failures or emergencies under the assist of the manager.

The job requires learning how to conduct system administration and virtual environments, including maintaining Windows and Linux based systems, virtual machines, and servers to ensure they remain secure, available, and up-to-date and will work with the IT Systems Administrator II to ensure the duties are being accomplished properly. It will also assist with installing various hardware platforms.

This position focuses on aiding, assisting and supporting end-users, handling minor requests, troubleshooting meager issues, and helping to resolve them promptly, including responding to situations after business hours in the IT Systems Administrator II's absence only and if urgent situations present themselves, the incumbent in this position will contact the IT Technical Manager
for guidance and direction.

This role aids with learning maintaining IT security and network management to ensure that security protocols are adhered to
and the network infrastructure is reliable under the direction of the IT Technical Manager.

Additionally, 5% of the time is spent learning documenting processes, services, and performance metrics to improve system performance.

The remaining 5% is dedicated to acquiring an understanding of how to collaborate with other IT staff on agency-wide projects and initiatives. This position will absorb and understand how IT initiatives are preformed as well as how this position aligns itself in the IT Bureau along with the organization's goals that critical to the needs of the agency.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have the following experience.

4. Customer service experience
5. Extension network experience
6. Excellent customer services skills as it will work with managers, supervisors and employees in the agency.

Minimum Qualification

Associate degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in end user support, systems administration, network administration, or any related field. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with extensive computer and telephone usage to include working with faxes, copiers and printers. Extensive interaction with managers, supervisors and employees of the agency by email, phone and in person. There are extended periods of sitting and researching large amounts of data. There are periods of standing, bending, walking, carrying
equipment, and reaching will be required. Occasional travel will be required to district offices. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. This position must follow all office protocols.
