Design Engineer

Position Summary:

The Design Engineer is responsible for developing 3D models, drawing packages, and BOM releases for complex mechanical parts and assemblies utilizing Siemens NX. The role requires rigorous application of design, drafting, and manufacturing techniques. The Design Engineer will also be required to implement engineering changes and process improvements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop 3D models of complex aerospace hardware
• Prepare design concepts, sketches, layouts, and technical drawings
• Appropriately select component materials
• Interface with internal and external stakeholders to ensure manufacturability
• Maintain and update BOMs
• Generate technical reviews and other engineering documentation
• Support cross-functional activities to maintain existing designs
• Implement engineering design change requests
• Support FMEA and reliability predictions
• Support proposals and new product initiatives
• Support disposition of technical issues which occur during manufacturing
• Support customer reviews and inbound requests

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer or similar role
• Expertise in parametric CAD design
• Expertise in drawing ANSI standards and GD&T procedures
• Knowledge of material properties and selection process
• Knowledge of manufacturing and machining techniques
• Knowledge of FMEAs and quality assurance processes
• Knowledge of relevant MIL-STDs
• Familiarity with heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and structural mechanics
• Highly motivated self-starter
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment

Education and Experience:

• Bachelors degree or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a related field
• 2+ years of experience in a similar role

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work for prolonged periods on a computer or in a lab environment
• Ability to move equipment up to 25 pounds

Other Requirements:

• Due to contracts with the United States Government, the candidate must be either a US Citizen or Green card holder.
