Job Title: Registered Nurse Level 2 - Emergency Department
Job Specialty: Acute Care - Emergency
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Day/Night/Weekend/Holiday Rotational (3x12-hour shifts) + 2 On Call shifts every 4 weeks
Guaranteed Hours: Full-Time
Experience: Two years of acute hospital experience as a Registered Nurse, with at least one year in an Emergency Department environment
License: Valid Registered Nurse Licensure
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke Certification (Must be AHA or RQI)
Must-Have: Minimum of two years of acute hospital experience as a Registered Nurse and one year in an Emergency Department environment
Job Description:
- Apply knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills to deliver high-quality, compassionate care to patients and families.
- Assess patient needs, prioritize urgent or emergent care, and provide direct care with appropriate interventions.
- Utilize skills in invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments, and therapeutic interventions to manage life-threatening and routine emergency situations.
- Implement relationship-based care to alleviate anxiety, provide information, and address pain, discomfort, and safety.
- Connect with patients and families during triage, establish rapport, address comfort needs, listen attentively, assess nonverbal communication, and provide frequent updates.
- Conduct primary assessments of critical needs and document deviations from the norm for all age groups within acceptable time frames.
- Perform secondary assessments using direct observation, patient/family interviews, EMS reports, and data to identify contributing factors and health history.
- Assess psychosocial needs, document, and report any suspicions of domestic violence or abuse across all age groups.
- Reassess patients to evaluate response to treatment or changes in condition and respond appropriately.
- Encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to achieve the best possible patient outcomes.
- Delegate tasks and interventions consistent with individual education, training, and scope of practice.
- Prepare patients and families for diagnostic procedures, treatments, and post-emergency care referrals.
- Educate patients on continuing care and healing at home, tailoring sessions to maximize understanding based on learning styles, and evaluating retention of key educational points.
- Maintain a patient-centered focus, ensuring the patient and family are central to all care and services.
- Create a healing environment and keep patients and significant others informed about the care process, anticipating needs, and notifying family/support systems as necessary.
- Monitor and update patient communication boards throughout the Emergency Department stay.
