Example of Duties
Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Chief, the Fleet Maintenance Division Chief oversees the operation and administration of the Anchorage Fire Department fleet maintenance shop. Develops section operational budget and assists in the development of the capital acquisition budget. Possess advanced drive-ability diagnostic skills necessary in directing tradesman. Supervises the activities of shop personnel to ensure the success of the department's vehicle maintenance program. Defines the standards for maintenance quality assurance. Ensures personnel have correct supplies, materials, and equipment to perform assigned functions safely. Monitors, develops, and provides safety and training programs. Participates in hiring, evaluating, identifying performance issues, counseling, and initiating corrective action and/or discipline. Responds to and resolves customer complaints. Requires the knowledge of complex equipment & vehicle systems and issues associated with the repair or replacement of those systems or units. Utilizes authorized software for tracking work section functions. Must be well versed in Microsoft Office Applications. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and nine (9) years of experience specific to the responsibilities of the role, which includes two (2) years in a supervisory or lead position.
OR
Associate's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Economics, Construction Management, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Communications, Environmental Health, Safety Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, electrical/automation technology or a related discipline and seven (7) years of experience specific to the responsibilities of the role, which includes two (2) years in a supervisory or lead position.
OR
Bachelor's degree or higher in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Economics, Construction Management, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Communications, Environmental Health, Safety Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or a related discipline and five (5) years of experience specific to the responsibilities of the role, which includes two (2) years in a supervisory or lead position.
