Organization Summary Statement:
The Data Architect reports directly to the Senior Data Architect within the VPR, Research Information Systems and Integrations Team. This is an opportunity to join a unit whose mission is to contribute to the strategic initiative of improving the reporting process and access to data across the VPR.
The Data Architect will be responsible for requirements gathering, design, and assistance with maintenance of a data warehouse for research administration and financial reporting. The Data Architect will also be responsible for report and dashboard development, implementing metrics for VPR datasets, implementing best practice solutions and procedures for data warehouse structures, contributing to ETL implementations and implementing data quality controls and reports as needed. This position will be critical in assisting a variety of faculty and staff members with navigating data around compliance, sponsored program's financials, and integrations with our ERP system.
The candidate for this role will contribute to a strategy for improving data delivery and usability.
Physical Demands:
Sedentary work performed in a normal office environment, spending many hours in front of a computer. Ability to attend events and meetings on and off campus.
Preferences:
Five (5) years in the following:
*Designing data structures for reporting and analytics;
*Using reporting tools such as PowerBI, Google Analytics, Tableau, or other industry-standard reporting tools;
*With query writing using SQL, Python, PHP, or related languages and years of experience with customer support and training;
*Developing detailed technical documentation as well as documentation for end users;
*Developing integrations and reports for research administration and/or financial data;
*With various Cloud technologies;
*With the Kuali Research, Kuali COI, and Workday Integrations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
*Strong attention to detail;
*Ability to present ideas in a user-friendly language;
*Self-motivated, energetic, and a team player.
*Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, data analytics, or a related field.
*Candidates who are both technically strong and creative in order to develop unique solutions to answer complex questions with the university's data.
*Ability to use a variety of cloud based technologies to facilitate analysis and decision making.
*Clear communication, leadership skills, collaborating with nontechnical stakeholders, and the ability to make critical decisions.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience implementing or maintaining large scale enterprise data warehouses.
Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
Knowledge of academic policies.
Knowledge of data privacy, practices and laws.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Google Office Suite.
Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments.
Ability to interact with internal and external staff at all levels in a professional, courteous and efficient manner.
