Senior Estimator

Position Overview

The Senior Estimator is responsible for leading the estimating process from start to finish, supervising and mentoring estimators, and ensuring departmental resources are effectively organized. This role requires a strong focus on accuracy, completeness, and meeting deadlines.

Location: Seattle, WA

Salary Range: $115k-140k

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The following duties are associated with the Senior Estimator role. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed:
  • Train and mentor estimators, ensuring professional growth and development.
  • Perform conceptual budgeting and estimating.
  • Determine and confirm project scope and programming.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and interface with clients.
  • Participate in project interviews and presentations.
  • Set up estimates in estimating software, including:
    • Estimate breakdowns
    • Multiple user files
  • Develop and review scope letters.
  • Manage the RFQ process for major material and equipment packages.
  • Evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations for completeness and accuracy.
  • Provide design input as required for budgeting and estimating.
  • Utilize and manipulate Excel spreadsheets and Word documents for estimating tasks.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Estimator for guidance, progress tracking, and adjustments.

    Qualifications

    To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

    Education & Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in a related field or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
    • Minimum of 4+ years of electrical estimating experience.
    • Strong understanding of electrical theory and basic electrical installation practices.

    Technical Skills
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, technical procedures, and government regulations.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and estimating software.
    • Working knowledge of National and State Electrical Codes.

    Mathematical Skills
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, including fractions and decimals.

    Reasoning Ability
    • Ability to apply logic and reasoning to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    Supervisory Responsibilities
    • Oversees and mentors estimators.
    • Responsible for interviewing, training, assigning work, evaluating performance, and resolving issues in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.

    Work Environment & Physical Demands
    • Occasionally exposed to mechanical equipment and outdoor weather conditions.
    • Noise levels are generally moderate but may vary.
    • Frequent standing, walking, and sitting; occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs).
    • Requires vision capabilities such as close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
