Purpose:
The Director of Central Sterile Services will leverage a high degree of competence and expertise in all areas of surgical/procedural sterile instrument processing. The Director is an integral member of the surgical service line and responsible for collaborating with site-based operating room and sterile processing leaders to implement and standardize best practices as outlined in professional standards. In collaboration with UPMC Surgical Service line leaders, the Director will identify opportunities and implement system-wide best practices to achieve quality patient outcomes.The Director serves as a member of the surgical service line leadership team across the enterprise building and supporting effective collegial relationships with applicable internal and external constituents and stakeholders ensuring optimal operating effectiveness. This position will be responsible for ongoing evaluation and development of service line improvement initiatives. The role will drive key change initiatives and will meet with site-based leaders regularly to ensure accountability and adherence to service line expectations.

Responsibilities:
- Oversee the development of policies, procedures and standards of care for central sterile processing.
- Ensure implementation and evaluation of appropriate orientation and continuing education programs in collaboration with UPMC Clinical Education
- Ensure that all site-based leaders and are educated on and accountable to policies, procedures, and all applicable professional standards.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable professional standards for surgical/procedural instrument processing through collaboration with local surgical service and sterile processing leaders.
- In collaboration with surgical service line and infection prevention, develop and monitor quality metrics and improvement programs as it relates to sterile processing to promote patient quality and safety.
- Identify trends at a system and site level, working work with site leaders to develop appropriate action plans to address opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain to develop and monitor surgical sterile processing equipment purchasing and rental programs and adherence to system standards.
- Assist with development and review of consistent staffing and productivity standards and collaborate with site-base leaders in management of resources.
- Serve on all committees as appointed by the Leadership
- Act in a manner to promote optimal service management.
- Comply with attendance policies as established by the UPMC Surgical Central Processing Department.
- Function as a member of the Surgical Services leadership team.
- Interact with members of the Medical Staff to proactively solve problems.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree OR equivalent experience is required.
- Five years of surgical services leadership experience or equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- 2 years prior Sterile Processing experience strongly preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: - Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution OR Certified Registered Central Service Technician OR International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management required
