Senior Geologist

Department: Technical Services
Reports To: V.P. Technical Services
Location: Coeur d'Alene, ID (this position is anticipated to have travel requirements to sites of approximately 30%)

Position Summary:

The Senior Geologist serves as a technical specialist, providing geological expertise, production support, and technical oversight across all mining operations. This role is responsible for supporting mining operations in production-related geology duties including sampling, grade control and detailed geologic studies. The position works closely with the Resource Geology staff to monitor grade models and mining reconciliation, ensuring geological models accurately represent ore bodies and support effective mine planning. This person also interacts with the geotechnical, mining and metallurgical engineering teams to ensure the technical solutions consider all pertinent geological aspects of the project.

The Senior Geologist will have the opportunity to influence technical decisions pertaining to geological modeling and grade control at operating sites and will gain experience with both underground and open pit mining operations. They will also work with multiple operations and development projects, giving them exposure to a broad range of geological environments and challenges.

Essential Functions:
  • Participate in mine site visits to ensure geological models align with observed conditions.
  • Collaborate with operation geologists to improve grade control practices.
  • Work with mine planning engineers to optimize mining sequences based on geological understanding and confidence.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of mining reconciliation to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide summary reports of the data analysis and grade model estimation results and validation. Support the completion of SK-1300 / NI43-101-style Technical Reports when required.
  • Assist the Technical Services group with project evaluation and in the development of Mineral Reserve models as required.
  • Support the Corporate Development group with project/company evaluations and Due Diligence studies with appropriate reporting.

Safety, Health and Environmental Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Include, but are not limited to:
  • Display due diligence in safety, health, and environmental matters and lead by example.
  • Promote open communication and cooperation across all operations.
  • Ensure that geological assessments consider potential environmental impacts.
  • Participate in safety audits and inspections when visiting mine sites.
  • Support risk assessments related to geological conditions that may impact safety.
  • Participate in relevant incident investigations and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Verify appropriate qualifications for geological personnel at operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geological Engineering or related field required; advanced degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in mine production geology in both underground and open pit mines with a focus on grade control.
  • Resource modeling and Exploration experience is helpful.
  • Member in good standing of a Self-Regulating Organization and certification as a 'Qualified Person' is preferred.
  • Previous work experience in Mexico, South America, and Eastern Canada is a plus

Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with Surpac, Leapfrog, or other mining software and Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong understanding of geostatistical methods and block model validation techniques
  • Experience with core logging, geological mapping, and sampling protocols
  • Experience with quality assurance/quality control protocols for exploration and production sampling.
  • Familiarity with various deposit types and their geological controls
  • Working knowledge of mining methods and their impact on grade control
  • Experience with reconciliation analysis and reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and integrate diverse geological datasets
