Reporting to the Senior Engineering Team Lead, Core Components, the Electrical Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing our established product line. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in test-driven development using PIC and SAM series microcontrollers and be proficient in designing low to medium-density circuit boards with signal conditioning and RFI/EMI/ESD suppression for automotive applications.

VMAC is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join its team in Nanaimo. Reporting to the Senior Engineering Team Lead, Core Components, the Electrical Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing our established product line. Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Embedded Development: Hands-on experience with PIC and SAM series microcontrollers using test-driven development principles.
- Hardware Design: Design and develop low- to medium-density PCBs, ensuring robust signal integrity and EMI/ESD protection for automotive environments.
- Prototyping & Innovation: A practical, hands-on engineer capable of innovating, prototyping, and troubleshooting designs efficiently.
- Production Support: Assist with ECR/ECO/ECN updates and provide hands-on support for production and manufacturing as needed.
- Quality & Sustainability: Drive high-quality, long-lifetime designs while advocating for modular development to enhance long-term maintainability.
- Power Electronics Exposure: Basic understanding and experience with 300A generators and 240V IGBT/SCR architectures is preferred.
- Identify obsolete components and find suitable replacements to ensure product continuity.
- Efficiently cross-reference parts and make informed decisions on substitutions when necessary.
- Test and validate prototype systems to ensure they meet design and performance specifications.
- Assist with various electronic tasks throughout the plant, providing solutions where needed.
- Create standard documentation for internal and external parties.
- Actively participate in design reviews.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum Bachelor of Engineering Degree from an accredited university of good standing or equivalent.
- Registered with EGBC as a P. Eng or EIT or ASTTBC.
- Minimum 3+ years of experience, excluding co-ops, as an Electrical Engineer, preferably in product sustenance or development.
- Practical, hands-on engineer capable of innovating, prototyping, and troubleshooting designs efficiently.
- Proven debugging and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with CAD tools for circuit design (e.g., Altium, CircuitStudio, or Orcad) and 3D assembly designs (e.g., SolidWorks or AutoCAD).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
