Job Description
Job Title: Dietitian
Job Specialty: Inpatient Clinical Nutrition
Job Duration: 12 Months
Shift: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday-Friday (Potential weekend coverage may be needed)
Guaranteed Hours: 40 per week
Experience: 1-2 years of clinical nutrition experience and education
License: Licensed as a dietitian-nutritionist within three months from date of hire
Certifications: Certification as a Registered Dietitian, issued by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, or registration-eligible, obtaining certification within three months from date of hire
Must-Have:
- Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition or related field from an accredited school
- One year of education background in teaching and learning with excellent interpersonal skills
- Two to three years of clinical nutrition experience and education skills
- One year of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition support experience
Job Description:
- Participate as a member of the healthcare team, providing Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and nutrition education to patients of all ages and the community
- Serve as a resource for nutrition information to allied health personnel and integrate patient nutritional care into the total treatment plan
- Gather and analyze data from the medical history, medication record, lab values, nutritional and social history, and through patient interviews for comprehensive nutritional assessment
- Identify patients at nutritional risk, categorize level of malnutrition based on ASPEN AND criteria, initiate nutrition interventions, and assign follow-up care timeframes
- Develop and implement nutritional care plans, communicate the plan to the healthcare team, assess outcomes, and revise plans to attain goals
- Maintain accurate electronic records of care plans as a communication tool with nutrition staff
- Tailor nutrition support regimens to individual needs based on clinical data and outcomes
- Evaluate social, economic, and demographic factors for discharge planning in patients receiving Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (PEN) support
- Demonstrate knowledge of Medicare guidelines regarding PEN
- Obtain required continuing education to maintain professional growth and competency
- Calculate nutrient requirements and recommend PEN formulations to physicians
- Attend multidisciplinary team rounding to promote nutrition outcomes
- Educate individuals and families on nutritional principles, therapeutic dietary plans, food selection, and food economics
- Adapt nutrition plans to individual lifestyles and teach group nutrition classes
- Interpret, evaluate, and apply current research and evidence-based information for nutritional care
- Develop and update education materials
- Attend multidisciplinary team meetings and conduct in-services and classes for peers, allied health, and medical professionals
- Counsel patients on food-drug interactions when appropriate
- Function as a liaison to the Food Service Department to promote patient satisfaction
- Assist with patient meal planning when needed
- Provide clinical guidance to dietetic technicians
- Participate in designing and conducting performance improvement initiatives with interdisciplinary teams
- Participate in on-call responsibilities as required
- Perform other duties as assigned
