Position Description
Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is seeking an experienced Business Technical Support Specialist to provide comprehensive IT support services across all SPU locations. This position will partner with SPU staff and Seattle IT, delivering expert troubleshooting, training, and implementation of business technology solutions.
As a Business Technical Support Specialist, you will manage SPU's extensive computing inventory of over 2,500 devices, coordinate technology transitions during facility remodeling projects, and lead conference room A/V technology implementation and support. You will maximize the value of SPU's technology investments through strategic asset management, including equipment reallocation, surplus activities, and specialized imaging services tailored to business needs.

Qualifications
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in Information Technology or related work of similar scope and nature in a mid-large scale, complex organization, including experience with hardware deployment, configuration, troubleshooting, inventory management systems, asset tracking, and providing technical support and training to end-users.
Education: Prefer Associate's degree in Information Technology or a related technical field
Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification, and experience(s) will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability.

Job Responsibilities
Business Technology Support Services
- Serve as a technical liaison between SPU staff and Seattle IT desktop support
- Provide expert troubleshooting for business technology issues
- Train SPU staff on effective use of business technology systems
- Create and maintain technical documentation for business systems
Conference Room Audio/Visual Technical Support
- Troubleshoot SPU Cisco Room Kits at Seattle Municipal Tower and other SPU business locations
- Configure and reset room kits, manage cabling issues, and partner with Seattle IT on complex problems
- Create and manage how-to and training documentation for conference room technology
- Provide in-person, on-call assistance for business meetings and presentations
Digital Signage Management
- Manage and support SPU Digital Signage players at SMT and remote locations
- Provision new digital signage systems as required for business communication needs
- Coordinate with Seattle IT and Privacy/Security for on-boarding devices into the City network
- Serve as technical liaison with SPU Communications Team for digital signage content
Business IT Asset Management
- Process and deploy new computer equipment for SPU business users
- Manage lifecycle replacement program for 500+ business computers annually
- Maintain comprehensive inventory tracking for more than 2500 business computing devices
- Coordinate mobile device provisioning with SPU Telephone Coordinators for field staff
- Implement strategic surplus/reallocation of technology assets to maximize value
Business Technology Migration Projects
- Provide logistical support for the migration of 2500+ business computers to Windows 11
- Coordinate with business units to minimize operational disruption during migrations
- Ensure quality verification for newly imaged business computers
- Support physical moves of workstations during facility remodeling projects

Qualifications

Desired Qualifications:
- Hardware expertise: Experience with deployment, configuration, troubleshooting, and inventory management systems for IT equipment in medium to large organizations
- Technical proficiency: Knowledge of Windows 10/11, networking principles, conference room A/V systems (especially Cisco Room Kit), Microsoft Office 365, and digital signage platforms
- Project experience: Familiarity with Windows migration projects and creating technical documentation/training materials
- Communication skills: Strong customer service abilities and experience training end-users
- Growth potential: Demonstrated interest in expanding technical skills and taking on increasing responsibility in IT support roles
