Position Title: Plant Manager

Location: Greater Milwaukee Area

Summary:

High growth Milwaukee area company is looking for a manufacturing Plant Manager, who will have overall responsibility for all manufacturing operation activity for the flagship plant located in the metro area.

The Plant Manager oversees and coordinates all production activities, operations, and staff on all 3 shifts to ensure conformance to established procedures; implements practices that maximize production efforts to improve the overall effectiveness and financial performance of the production function. This role is responsible for leading and supporting all areas of product manufacturing to produce and deliver the required amount of product on schedule, to meet/exceed Company's quality standards, while meeting product and labor cost goals.

Essential Duties:
  • Reviews, analyzes, modifies, and implements efficient and effective department processes, policies, and procedures; coordinates with the Company President and other executives to monitor and control operating costs, quality, and processes
  • Communicates goals/key initiatives to improve plant performance and success and ensures they are achieved; identifies, documents, and implements opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Interfaces with Executive team members, Sales, Quality Assurance, Continuous Improvement/Safety, Research & Development, Supply Chain, & Warehouse to ensure highest degree of final quality, and to review, establish and implement improved quality methods
  • Develops, monitors, and communicates the daily/weekly production requirements; develops the daily schedule based on forecasting and order information in the ERP system
  • Audits and ensures all products are produced and finished to specifications and production schedule, and that standards and approved manufacturing methodology is being followed; minimizes product waste and damage
  • Maintains knowledge of machine capacity and develops solutions for efficient utilization; communicates any repairs and maintenance required both verbally and via a work order; continues to identify areas for operational automation opportunities
  • Ensures all safety rules and regulations are followed; monitor and enforce established GMP, OSHA, HACCP rules and regulations
  • Prepares all required reports and correspondence
  • Keeps up to date on overall activities of the team, identifying problem areas and taking corrective actions
  • Ensures the plant is left in a clean and sanitary manner at all times and proactively addresses safety and sanitation concerns
  • Leads and manages, with assistance of front line leads/supervisors a production staff of 55-100+ employees on three shifts
  • Proactively manages employee performance, and ensures employee conflicts and concerns are addressed immediately and appropriately; takes corrective action as called for
  • Provides day to day guidance and mentorship of all staff; assists employees as needed, and answers product and process questions
  • Motivates, disciplines, develops/trains staff, and participates in succession planning; makes recommendations for hiring and termination
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable law, including related documentation
  • Manages employee scheduling, absences, authorization of time records and adjustments, etc.
  • Maintains knowledge of the skills of the labor force to manage in times of employee absence or unexpected peak demands
  • Oversees, with assistance of front line leads/supervisors and staffing firm personnel, ongoing temporary staff to supplement regular workforce
  • Work with third party staffing firm management to regulate the need and supply additional personnel, report issues or concerns, work closely to ensure firms understand and adhere to Company's needs, expectations, authorize billing, etc.
Skills & Requirements
Education & Experience or Training:
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in a business, production, or management capacity preferred, but not required
  • 5-7 years experience in similar capacity required
  • Knowledgeable / training in HASSP, GMP's, SQF required / strongly preferred
  • ERP system experience, preferably in Epicor
  • Ability to regularly exercise discretion and sound independent judgement in his/her management decisions required
