Description / Position Overview
Senior Web Accessibility Coordinator
In this role, you will serve as the City's Web Accessibility Coordinator, responsible for coordinating the City's compliance with various digital & web accessibility laws, including but not limited to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Colorado House Bill 21-1110, and who has experience in WCAG 2.1, the ADA and general accessibility standards and acts as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the City. You will ensure the City's (City of Colorado Springs) compliance with the applicable laws. You will collaborate with management to develop plans and budgets for projects and interact with City staff and the public to develop an interactive process to address compliance.
The City's IT department works closely with the Office of Accessibility works to improve access to City facilities, programs, services, and activities. We are dedicated to assisting persons with disabilities. You will help ensure the City's compliance with Title II of the Americans Disabilities Act, (HB) 21-1110 and other applicable federal and state laws and regulations. This position has direct exposure to and impacts all City departments and makes a difference in the lives of our residents and visitors by coordinating compliance with internal department stakeholders. This includes developing, coordinating, implementing, and monitoring City-wide compliance with various accessibility laws and requirements.

As a Senior Web Accessibility Coordinator, you will:
- Accessibility Committee Leadership: Chair the City's Accessibility Prioritization Sub-Committee and actively participate in the City's Accessibility Committee meetings.
- ADA Compliance & Policy Development: Develop and implement goals, policies, and procedures to ensure the City's compliance with Title II of the ADA.
- Technical Assistance & Standards Compliance: Provide guidance on Title II ADA provisions, industry-recognized standards (ISO), web content accessibility guidelines, OIT rules, and ADA standards.
- Training & Awareness: Design and facilitate ADA awareness training for staff on accessibility issues and City processes.
- Facility & Digital Accessibility Evaluation: Conduct and review facility surveys, document accessibility needs, and assist departments in integrating ADA requirements into new and existing online technology.
- Web Accessibility & Grievance Resolution: Oversee the City's web accessibility grievance process, investigate Title II concerns, and coordinate web accessibility self-evaluation initiatives.
- Project & Budget Support: Lead initiatives to improve access to City services and assist with budget recommendations for digital accessibility requirements.
Relevant Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and related federal, state, and local accessibility laws and regulations.
- Industry-recognized accessibility standards, including International Standards Organization (ISO), Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and OIT rules.
- Principles and best practices for evaluating and improving programmatic, digital, and physical accessibility.
- Methods for conducting accessibility assessments, facility surveys, and barrier removal evaluations.
- Public sector policy development, budgeting, and project management related to accessibility initiatives.
Ability to:
- Lead and coordinate accessibility initiatives, committees, and subcommittees effectively.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and training programs to enhance accessibility compliance.
- Provide technical guidance on accessibility standards to internal and external stakeholders.
- Conduct facility surveys and digital accessibility evaluations to identify and address accessibility barriers.
- Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and city departments to ensure ADA compliance in construction and technology projects.
- Investigate and resolve web accessibility grievances and Title II concerns efficiently.
- Communicate complex accessibility concepts clearly to diverse audiences, including City staff and leadership.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field of study related to the work
- Experience: Five years of full-time professional experience in a related field, such as regulation interpretation, document management, project management, or experience implementing employer-based compliance and accommodation programs mandated by federal and state laws, including Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act
- Certification:: Possess or obtain within six months of hire, an ADA Coordinator Certification
