Why does the job exist?

The IT Application Developer II works closely with clients and IT team members to understand the stakeholder requirements that drive the analysis and design of applications aligned with HCA's mission and business.

The IT Application Developer II will:
  • Be responsible for the design and implementation of applications build, release, deployment, and configuration activities;
  • Perform such tasks as coding, testing, debugging, and documenting programs;
  • Work with internal business partners to gather requirements, prototyping, designing, implementing/updating solutions, building and executing test plans, performing quality reviews, managing operations, and triaging and fixing operational issues;
  • Code, test, debug, document, and implement software applications under general supervison; /li>
  • Work on systems of moderate size and complexity or segments of larger systems.


How does it get done?

The IT Application Developer II is responsible for:
  • Designing, implementing, and developing solutions for complex systems, ensuring system functionality, security, and performance standards;
  • Analyzing and determining client needs to implement appropriate technical solutions, including installation, data recovery, and clustering;
  • Mentoring junior developers and collaborating with diverse users and vendors to identify system requirements and trade-offs;
  • Performing testing, script maintenance, and assist with setup of test environments, while ensuring contingency plans for backup and restore and;
  • Developing custom code using various programming languages (e.g., .NET, Python, Java, Salesforce, jQuery) and modify COTS software like PeopleSoft and WordPress).

  • This position supports both internal and external HCA staff and stakeholders.


Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has:
  • Has three (3) or more years of experience as a software developer in a corporate or governmental environment;
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce (Apex), Python, MS Power, C#/.NET, Java, jQuery, and/or other related development languages/platforms is crucial for the ideal candidate;
  • The ability to work effectively individually and as a part of a team is vital, as if the ability to juggle multiple competing priorities;
  • Willingness to learn new tools and to push themselves to expand their knowledge of all aspects of software development;
  • Additionally, the ideal candidate is goal-oriented and driven to achieve positive results for all the stakeholders they serve.


Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in software programming. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Must obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate.

Employment is subject to a pre-employment criminal history background investigation and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Office setting. Long periods of sitting and continuous use of monitor and keyboard. Stress due to deadlines and workload. Occasional overnight travel, work after hours, weekends and/or holidays may be required; Occasionally variable work schedule.
