Description:

At Reflect, you will be expected to move fast, have a lot of ownership and, most importantly, be able to effect change. If this excites you, we are interested in hearing about your best work and accomplishments across any domain and from any points in your life.

About the Role

As a Senior Radiation Effects Engineer, your mission is to ensure our spacecraft's electronics, materials, and systems can withstand the relentless bombardment of radiation in space. From modeling and predicting the on-orbit radiation environment, to selecting robust components and designing mitigation strategies, you'll be our in-house authority on all things radiation. You'll work with avionics, systems, and test teams to proactively identify vulnerabilities and guarantee mission-critical reliability.

Responsibilities
  • Model radiation exposure for our spacecraft's mission profile(s) using industry-standard tools
  • Evaluate and select radiation-hardened or tolerant electronic parts and materials
  • Design and implement mitigation strategies for total ionizing dose (TID) and single-event effects (SEE)
  • Plan and oversee radiation testing campaigns, including test setup and data analysis
  • Provide guidelines for shielding, operational constraints, and part-level derating strategies

Ideal Qualifications
  • Strong background in radiation physics, nuclear engineering, or space environment modeling
  • Hands-on experience with radiation testing (heavy ions, protons, gamma sources) and data analysis
  • Familiarity with simulation platforms like SPENVIS, OMERE, or CRME for environment modeling
  • Proven success selecting and qualifying electronics for use in radiation-prone environments
  • Comfortable working across teams to drive high-reliability solutions

Even if you don't meet 100% of the above qualifications, we are likely still interested in hearing from you. Hiring exceptional individuals is our #1 priority, and we believe that exceptional people often have highly unusual backgrounds.

We are also interested in carving out unique roles for unconventional people that we are excited about working with.
