Description:
Function
Provides hands-on process and training expertise to support the safe, efficient production of wire products. Evaluates and develops processes, including tooling, materials, equipment, methods, and training to support quality improvements and reduction in the cost of quality. Works with customers on new opportunities or to improve existing processes. Develops and oversees work instructions, standards, and procedures. Assists in assessing team competency needs and collaborates with Operations, Safety, and HR for safe work instructions changes.
Duties and Responsibilities
Identifies opportunities for process changes, process monitoring and equipment modifications to improve quality, reduce scrap and ensure efficient production of products and the upstream supporting processes. Applies measurement, analysis, improvement and control techniques for improving the process. Establishes process parameters and controls using Six Sigma and statistical techniques, quality planning tools and lean manufacturing methods. Troubleshoots issues with equipment, methods and processes. Develops solutions and coordinates implementation. Maintains documentation of activities, including DOE's, formal engineering reports, PPAP's, statistical analyses, key metrics, etc. Leads Guilford system in a proactive method to assist Operations in the identification, analysis, and resolution of operational issues. Compiles and displays data for the OpEx system. Suggests and implements actions to drive improvement. Drives disciplined problem solving through own actions as well as through the management of project teams. Applies the core of OpEx problem solving techniques to these teams. Develops and encourages a high level of employee morale and participation through assistance in OpEx projects. Develops, updates, and maintains safe work instructions and ensures all employees are continuously trained to these instructions. Works closely with the supervisors to ensure they are completing the training assessments on time for every new hire through the 90-day onboarding period. Assists in resolving any specific training program issues among supervisor, trainer, and trainee. Supports achievement of the plant's safety, scrap, service, and quality goals. Performs other related functions as required.
Position Specifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field
Three to five years of manufacturing process engineering experience in a manufacturing environment; magnet wire or continuous process experience preferred
Three years of experience in developing and implementing effective training programs
Knowledge of Six Sigma and structured problem-solving techniques required; Black Belt certification preferred
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing methods
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and statistical software
Excellent communication, analytical and planning skills
