Schedule:
Variable 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday

Payrate: $40.87- 48.07hr, plus, $10/hr per diem.

$1000 sign on bonus.

PURPOSE:

design, develop, and maintain mechanical systems for the U.S. Navy's ships, including nuclear and conventional power systems, propulsion systems, and shipboard infrastructure.

SUMMARY:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skill, and/or ability desired.

The individual must have knowledge of procedures, strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to follow directions. The individual must possess experience in the trade, knowledge of ship terminology, ability to interpret engineering drawings. The individual must demonstrate ability to interpret job specifications and perform work on marine vessels.

Must be able to follow directions and work with limited supervision. Must be willing to develop other team members skill levels.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design and Development: Design, develop, and maintain mechanical systems and components for nuclear and conventionally powered naval ships. This includes engines, propulsion systems, ventilation systems, and auxiliary machinery.

Planning and Analysis: Plan, analyze, and verify designs for mechanical systems to ensure they meet performance requirements and safety standards.

Testing and Validation: Conduct testing and validation of mechanical systems and components to ensure they function correctly.

Collaboration: Collaborate with other engineers, trades personnel, and project managers to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

Troubleshooting and Repair: Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems and equipment on board ships

Technical Support: Provide technical support to other engineers and construction personnel.

Project Management: Manage projects from concept to completion, including planning, scheduling, and budgeting.

SPECIFIC AREAS OF FOCUS:

Nuclear Reactor Servicing: Some roles involve providing on-site engineering support for nuclear reactor fueling, refueling, and defueling, as well as servicing the reactors themselves.

Piping Systems: Some mechanical engineers work specifically with shipboard piping systems, including designing, troubleshooting, and repairing them.

Tools and Technologies:
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., NX, Teamcenter).
  • Knowledge of engineering standards and regulations.
  • Experience with various manufacturing processes and materials.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and measure using the metric system

REASONING ABILITY:
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems that may arise in certain situations

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, outside weather conditions, and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and heat and cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. PPE available and MUST be used correctly.
