We're actively seeking a talented Derivatives Analyst to join our Derivative Operations Team in Newport Beach, CA. This role is onsite with a hybrid work mode. As a Derivatives Analyst, you'll play a key role in Pacific Life's growth and long-term success by providing operational day to day coverage to Traders and Portfolio Managers trading financial Derivatives on behalf of the firm and its entities.

How you will make an impact:
  • Interact with colleagues, custodian banks, external parties, internal departments (Accounting, Audit, Treasury, Compliance, Law and Enterprise Risk Management) and other areas where necessary to ensure timely settlement of all cash flows associated with traded instruments.
  • Possess basic knowledge and understanding of common OTC traded and exchange-traded derivatives including execution, clearing, and associated settlement.
  • Develop strong understanding of the rules and regulations governing derivative trading.
  • Work in a team environment as well as independently to meet deadlines and effectively manage multiple priorities with supervision.
  • Use best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve products or services.
  • Efficiently processing, settling, and reconciling derivative trades, including trade affirmation and confirmation.
  • Performing middle and back-office duties involving non-standard trade processing, confirming trade economics, and settlement of derivative products, requiring problem-solving expertise.


The experience you will bring:
  • 2+ years in derivatives within investment operations back or middle office role.
  • Understanding investment operations, concepts, new regulations, and technology, including trade workflows and systems involved.
  • Basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory (STAT) relating to securities investments.
  • Providing operational support to trading and portfolio management across all Exchange-traded and OTC Derivative instruments.
  • Able to demonstrate proficiency in performing all responsibilities by following documented processes and procedures while exhibiting attention to detail and accuracy and showing initiative to help improve key processes.
  • Advanced research, problem solving, and resolution skills.
  • College degree in finance, accounting, or similar discipline is preferred.
  • Collaboration with internal teams and external parties requiring strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Requires solid understanding and experience in the finance industry. Utilizes best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve products or services.
  • Capable of solving problems with guidance and providing innovative perspectives and solutions to emerging issues.


What will make you stand out:
  • Knowledge of complex derivatives, including Bilateral OTC (IRS, Cross Currency, Equity TRS, CDS/CDX, Options, Bond Forwards), Cleared and Exchange-traded products
  • Experience and ability to leverage the following systems: Bloomberg, Calypso, MarkitWire, ePam, AcadiaSoft, and TriResolve.
  • Proven history of process improvements that may involve IT resources to increase scalability and reduce manual errors/risks.
  • CFA/CAIA/MBA is beneficial, not required.

Base Pay Range:

The base pay range noted represents the company's good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.

$36.05 - $44.06
