Nature of Work
This position will report to the Office of Marketing and Communications. Tasks will include developing, coordinating and maintaining public outreach related to citywide programs, projects and neighborhood relations. This position is responsible for the coordination of various community outreach activities and services, including preparing collateral, planning and executing public information meetings and stakeholder relations. Duties including but are not limited to preparation and placement of advertisements for public meeting announcements, preparation of information for news releases, preparing information to distribute at public community meetings or for other organizations. coordination and execution of public meetings and attending neighborhood association meetings. Other duties will include keeping the public informed of programs and events and creating and maintaining databases for e-mail communication and first-class informational brochures. flyers and informational correspondence.

- Conducts extensive community outreach in-person, attends neighborhood/homeowner association meetings and community organization events to serve as a resource for residents. Attends city events on evenings and/or weekends as needed.
- Assists in the creation of community outreach plans and helps to oversee implementation of any such plans, including the following activities public events, meetings, informational sessions, etc.
- Interacts with community stakeholders and neighborhood groups.
- Responds to community inquiries and briefs staff on matters of public interest and concerns.
- Attends, coordinates, and hosts community and neighborhood meetings to various groups, associations and stakeholders.
- Fosters relationships with community organizations.
- Writes and implements communication plans for internal and external audiences, including, but not limited to, internal, external, and crisis communications plans and public engagement campaigns related to City projects and initiatives
- Provides support to internal departments in need of community outreach
- Develops public education and informational materials, presentations, and displays.
- Ensures all communication materials follow the city's external communications policy.
- Develops a variety of communication tools to enhance stakeholders' perception and understanding of various City Department activities, projects, and policies
- Guides effective, appropriate service to the public and to City Departments by keeping them informed of citywide resources and programs.
- Creates and maintains the city's website regarding projects and initiatives.
- Works closely with external public information agencies and oversee day-to-day communications.
- Maintains and builds good working relationships with and provides excellent customer service to City employees. the general public and other agencies.
- Performs other related work as required.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field preferred
- Three (3) years of experience
- Three (3) years of experience facilitating public meetings and public forums
- Bilingual is a plus
Physical requirements:
- Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact
- Indoor/outdoor situation; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities.
- Lifting equipment up to 25 lbs. alone; up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
- Ability to efficiently perform duties under varying, and possibly extreme, weather conditions.
