Your key responsibilities
- Conduct engineering reviews and provide regulatory approvals throughout all phases of the land development process, including Area Structure Plans, Conceptual Schemes, and Development Permits.
- Negotiate, prepare, and secure necessary approvals for Service and Development Agreements and related engineering reports and design drawings.
- Collaborate with developers, consultants, and internal teams to resolve technical and scheduling conflicts.
- Perform engineering analysis, studies, designs, cost estimates, and contract management for municipal infrastructure projects.
- Develop, update, and interpret municipal standards related to design, servicing, and construction.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, municipal standards, and environmental and safety practices.
- Provide technical guidance and support to internal staff, external agencies, and the public.
- Act as a key resource and decision-maker in the absence of the Superintendent - Engineering - Planning.
What you bring
- Expertise in civil engineering principles related to municipal infrastructure, including roads, utilities, stormwater systems, and land development.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Experience in project management, contract preparation, and capital project execution.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex technical challenges and develop creative solutions.
- Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and discretion.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across teams and with external partners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, engineering software, and GIS applications.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Professional Membership (or eligibility) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
- Minimum of five (5) years of related experience as a Professional Engineer.
- Valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- A combination of relevant training and experience may be considered.
