Job Overview

As a Senior Database Administrator, you will be supporting the best-in-class advancements for our applications, systems and infrastructure. This position supports day to day operations of our SaaS solutions, including triaging technical issues, working quickly to resolve customer issues, understanding root cause, and executing/summarizing a Root Cause Analysis of the incidents/problems. The Senior Database Administrator is expected to generally operate without guidance, influence outside of the immediate team frequently, act as SME for multiple required technologies/applications and distribute systems expertise across the team through knowledge transfer.

What you'll do
  • Database Administration:
    • Manage, monitor, and maintain MS SQL Server databases, ensuring high availability and performance.
    • Troubleshoot database-related issues and provide support for database operations.
    • Perform regular database maintenance tasks, such as backups, indexing, and performance tuning.
    • Understand and implement SQL Server internals to optimize database performance.
  • Automation & Scripting:
    • Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell and Python to streamline database operations.
    • Automate routine tasks and improve efficiency through scripting and tool integration.
    • Collaborate with DevOps teams to integrate database automation into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Cloud & DevOps Integration:
    • Utilize Azure Database features to manage cloud-based database environments.
    • Work with Data DevOps tools like Terraform, Ansible, and Azure DevOps pipelines to deploy and manage database infrastructure.
    • Participate in the design and implementation of infrastructure as code (IaC) for database environments.
  • Operational Support:
    • Provide operational support for database infrastructure, including incident response and root cause analysis.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and improve database reliability.
    • Contribute to on-call rotation for database operations support.
  • Documentation & Communication:
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, processes, and best practices.
    • Communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and management to ensure alignment on database operations and projects.
    • Participate in knowledge sharing and training sessions to help team members improve their database skills.

What you'll do
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of experience in MS SQL Server database administration.
  • Strong understanding of MS SQL Server internals and performance tuning.
  • Experience with automation and scripting using PowerShell or Python.
  • Familiarity with Azure Database features and cloud-based database management.
  • Knowledge and working experience of Data DevOps tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Azure DevOps pipelines.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with other database platforms (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes will be a plus.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools for database environments.
