JOB PURPOSE:
Provides technical support for the design, implementation, and maintenance of the local and wide area networks, including all hardware and software with limited supervision reporting directly to the IT Manager.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains the DJJ network by diagnosing and troubleshooting infrastructure and network issues, while also recommending proactive measures to prevent future problems.
Oversees the activities of a team of network administrators.
Manages network related projects and attends project meetings.
Effectively communicates IT needs to leadership.
Facilitates knowledge sharing and cross-training among IT network support staff.
Creates and maintains network documentation, policies and procedures.
Configures and installs Brocade switches, Avaya routers for the agency's MPLS wide area network.
Monitors network activity and operations to ensure maximum performance and response.
Analyzes agency technology needs and develop technical requirements and solutions.
Meets with users to determine hardware, software, and networking needs for the agency and makes recommendations to management.
Interfaces with the Division of Information Technology in the management of agency servers and applications.
Provides support to management for investigative activities, FOIA requests, maintenance of email, user area files, and backed up hard disk documents retrieval for separated employees.
Performs other related job duties as required.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
STATE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor's degree in information technology systems, computer science, or a related field and experience in information technology systems or a related area. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Under minimal supervision, support the design and maintenance of the agency's network infrastructure.
Proficiency in Ethernet and fiber optic cabling, as well as configuration and installation of Ruckus-based routers and switches, is required.
Experience with Microsoft Active Directory, and managing group policy objects, is essential.
Familiarity with managing Office 365 tenants is a plus.
Responsibilities include monitoring network activity to ensure optimal performance, overseeing the installation and maintenance of circuits to remote county offices, and managing the agency's virtual servers.
Providing technical assistance to both IT staff and end users, demonstrating a high level of customer service skills.
Candidates should possess a broad knowledge of various computer environments, platforms, and technologies, along with in-depth familiarity with the agency's products.
Experience leading a team of network administrators is also necessary.
Incumbent must be able to bend, stoop, reach, and lift approximately 30 lbs.; must have efficient verbal and written communication skills and must be able to work in an environment with incarcerated youth.
This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.

A bachelor's degree and experience in automated information or communication systems design, installation, operation, and repair. Related experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis. A minimum of 4 years related experience.
