Description
The Director of the School of Anthropology, Political Science, and Sociology is the chief academic, administrative, and fiscal officer of the school. The director is responsible for the school's academic programs and its overall effectiveness in teaching, research, and service. The director manages school administration and resources and advocates on behalf of the school in the College of Liberal Arts, SIUC, and beyond. The director is expected to commit to cultural diversity and equal opportunity. Applications are limited to current SIU employees.
The target salary offer for this position is $10,000.00 monthly, and the full pay range for this position is $120,000.00 annually. Final salary offer will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints.
Examples of Duties
Duties and Responsibilities: The Director of the School of Anthropology, Political Science, and Sociology is responsible for overall management and leadership of the unit and is expected to contribute to the mission of the University.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to: Planning, development, coordination, review, and administration of undergraduate and graduate instructional programs to enhance learning outcomes of School majors; as well as students enrolled in service courses offered by the School faculty; ensuring faculty excellence through effective recruitment, retention, and evaluation of personnel; maintaining effective recruitment, retention, and degree completion rates of students enrolled in the unit; providing educational leadership, fostering excellence, and promoting a culture of research, scholarship, and creative activity among faculty; developing and recommending budgets to the Dean, as well as administering approved budgets and controlling expenditures within the unit; representing the School to various constituencies; conducting all business and activities in compliance with applicable law, policies of the SIU Board of Trustees, University Policies and Procedures, the College and School Operating Papers, and other guidance and directives of the Dean; and fostering an inclusive environment that advances Institutional goals.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: The director must have earned a doctorate in Anthropology, Political Science, Sociology, or a closely related field by date of hire, and have academic experience in their field of research. The director must have demonstrated excellence in teaching, research and service consistent with appointment to the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The director must have excellent leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred experience will include success in administration of programs in higher education to include accreditation, program review, strategic planning, budgeting, operations, and collaboration with colleagues.
