System Administrator [USA BASED]

Metal Toad is an award-winning AWS Consulting Partner and AWS Managed Services provider company based in the USA. We help our customers with their cloud adoption by providing architecture, migration, optimization, machine learning, and even 24x7 support. We are a professional services firm providing services in software engineering and the cloud. We do Technical consulting, Programming & Quality Assurance, DevOps, Applications, UX, Product management, and Project management.

Metal Toad is a fully remote organization with all employees having the option to work from home. The candidate must be able to work between 8 AM and 5 PM Pacific Time (PST) from Monday through Friday.

Job Description

The System Administrator position at Metal Toad requires experience in maintaining infrastructure for high-availability, scalable, enterprise-grade applications. You will be part of a talented team that works on mission-critical applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning

• Documents complete cloud hosting systems, including capacity planning, software and instance type selection, allocation, and network design.
• Builds systems by executing installation, configuration, and testing of cloud resources.
• Uses automation and configuration management to ensure repeatability and traceability of changes.

Managed Services

• Troubleshoots system hardware, software, networks, and operating systems.
• Protects integrity and security of systems by implementing access controls, and monitoring tools, and provides written evaluation and recommendations for ongoing improvement.
• Maintains system performance through system monitoring and analysis and performance tuning..
• Maintains internal systems and customer deployment documentation.
• Part of a 24x7 on-call rotation (approx. one week on call, one week on backup per month).
• Respond to support tickets and incidents in a timely manner, corresponding to SLA commitments.

Learning

• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Read and agree to our Corporate Values Statement
• Believe in the company mission: to help people
• 2+ years of experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
• Aditional experience with other cloud provider is a bonus
• Familiar with Linux and/or Windows System administration
• Scripting language experience (Python and shell prefered)
• Deep knowledge of TCP/IP and HTTP protocols
• Experience with web accelerators, load balancers, reverse proxies, and CDNs
• Problem solver and willing to work in an agile/fast-paced environment
• Customer-oriented with good communication skills
• Willing to participate in a 24/7 oncall rotation with approximately one shift per month compensated
