Overview
Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking a Payroll Lead to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site (SRS).
This position is responsible for for leadership of the payroll function for the company. Provides direction, support and guidance to payroll staff.

Teleworking employees may work offsite, typically at home. All teleworking arrangements must be approved at the discretion of Management on a case-by-case basis based on a number of factors, including - without limitation - business need, the nature of the job, employee experience, management preference, and state-by-state legal compliance/requirements.

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking a Payroll Lead to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site (SRS).
This position is responsible for for leadership of the payroll function for the company. Provides direction, support and guidance to payroll staff.
Responsibilities
- Leads personnel assigned to the payroll function, including but not limited to, hiring, training, assigning work, performance management and pay administration. Supervises daily work activities and provides troubleshooting of issues and guidance.
- Analyzes, audits, reconciles and resolves payroll processing and employee payroll issues to ensure accurate payroll. Works with SRMC employees who believe their paycheck is inaccurate or who may have taxation or garnishment issues. Investigates, resolves and communicates back to employee.
- Oversees and guarantees weekly and monthly disbursements of payroll including garnishments, benefits, and taxes consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws.
- Produces and/or approves wire transfers, accounts payable vouchers, ACH, and positive pay files related to payroll disbursements.
- Reconciles payroll liability accounts on general ledger.
- Ensures payroll reporting, policies and payments are compliant with company policy, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and applicable regulations. Researches and interprets applicable regulatory requirements and resolves tax, withholding, garnishment, and wage/hour issues for payroll processing. Oversees monthly, quarterly, and year end payroll tax reporting.
- Creates operating procedures/practices, monitors monthly journal entries and accrual schedules.
- Oversees wage under/overpayments. Acquires repayment if possible. Calculates and prepares off cycle check requests.
- Compiles, analyzes and submits payroll, benefit and other information for periodic and ad hoc reports to satisfy DOE requirements and other company requests.
- Responds to auditing, corporate and regulatory inquiries.
- Works with system support to achieve solutions to issues or process improvements. May work with system programmers and/or vendor to achieve solutions or administer company payroll system with outside service provider
- May provide back up to AP Lead when on travel or out of the office.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related plus progressive experience in payroll or accounting.

Preferred Qualifications
- In-depth understanding of the end-to-end payroll cycle and how it translates to general accounting systems and reporting
- Experience with accruals and account reconciliations
- Ability to work independently
- Highly organized and customer service oriented
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Experience with databases and familiarity with queries
- Experience with Savannah River Site payroll systems and procedures
- Advanced MS Excel (including pivot tables)
