Our Commercial Lines department is currently seeking an analytics engineer to help support the department and its Surety business partners by using project management skills and data awareness. The analytics engineer will leverage existing databases and reporting solutions as well as support the development of new solutions. The analytics engineer will utilize basic querying languages and tools to create meaningful statistical-based analysis and reporting. They will also partner with data analysts, IT developers, and business community to create fast, accurate and effective customer data solutions. This position is based at our Headquarters in Fairfield, Ohio.

Starting pay: The pay range for this position is $70,000 - $98,000 annually. The pay determination is based on the applicant's education, experience, location, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance.

Key responsibilities:
- provide data and insight with depth, clarity, speed and precision to deliver the best analysis and data-driven strategies to primary stakeholders and their key personnel.
- application systems coordination partnering with IT to create and maintain effective system solutions for the Surety business unit
- assist your primary stakeholders to build, monitor and achieve their goals through an understanding of internal and industry trends
- collect, clean, and analyze data from various sources to support business decisions
- support departmental reporting and analysis functions
- act as a primary data resource to the Surety management team and assist with the following tasks:
- Surety product profitability and growth initiative reporting
- serve as intermediary between IT and the Surety business unit for system development and enhancements
- participate and assist in the planning process
- assist with evaluating the effectiveness of a proposed solution
- identify barriers and constraints that may prevent full realization of value from a solution
- design table structures and ETL to build performant data solutions
- scoring departmental objectives and key results
- aggregated exposure modeling and analysis
- work on the following tasks independently:
- develop basic queries for data mining and writing reports
- develop automated routines for extracting requested information
- examine reports to locate and resolve errors
- develop exhibits that include tables and graphs
- represent the business units as a subject matter expert for system quality, performance, and continuous improvement
- support other areas within Commercial Lines Analytics
Be equipped with:
- demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to pinpoint data trends and anomalies as well as comprehend technical and logical concepts.
- be able to collect, organize, analyze and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
- responsibly work with data incorporating the principles of balancing, governing, labeling and optimizing.
- responsibly communicate data and analyses by considering the data literacy of the audience and through traditional data visualization techniques and tools such as Power BI and Excel.
- demonstrate basic understanding of statistical and predictive modeling concepts and uses.
- demonstrate strong customer service skills including active listening, empathy, adaptability and time management along with excellent communication and presentation skills.
- develop positive working relationship with team members and the Commercial Lines department.
- demonstrate critical thinking abilities.
- bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Business Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
- proficiency in data analysis tools and software (e.g., SQL, SAS, Excel, Power BI).
- possesses basic knowledge of or willingness to learn:
- financial and insurance key metrics
- surety, bond, and related concepts
- data visualization techniques
- proven experience as a data analyst, analytics engineer, business analyst or in a similar role
- certification in data analytics or related fields preferred. (e.g., AIDA, Certified Analytics Professional (CAP))
- experience with DAX or UI/UX design would be a positive
