IBM is seeking an outstanding communications professional with the right experience, expertise and enthusiasm to join the Corporate Affairs team and focus on the Americas region.

Based in New York the role will see the successful candidate lead executive communications for the Americas General Manager at IBM, while driving integrated internal communications initiatives across multiple diverse countries.

Working closely with the wider America communications team, the successful candidate will create experiences, in-person and virtual, that engage IBM sales employees in IBM strategy and help them understand how to apply to IBM's business and clients' success. The role will be responsible for providing employees with the knowledge, information, and clear calls to action needed to work effectively and deliver business results, while also building their belief in and advocacy for the IBM brand.

The role requires strong writing and communication skills, business acumen, an understanding of the technology industry, and the ability to work effectively with senior executives to convey their organizational vision.

The chosen candidate will operate in a flexible and thriving in-office environment, working collaboratively with the marketing, communications, and CSR teams. The role requires a minimum three days of in-office presence per week with the flexibility for remote work when aligned with the executive's schedule and travel.

Your role and responsibilities

Responsibilities include:
  • Foster strong, collaborative relationships in order to provide communications counsel and trusted advice to IBM's most senior technology leaders in Americas.
  • Understand IBM's diverse audience in Americas, the best channels to reach them, and the resources and guidance needed to help them do their jobs effectively.
  • Understand the external audiences IBM Americas leaders influence and the executive messages to deliver by persona to drive growth for IBM.
  • Design, create and deploy data-driven content that engages, informs and inspires IBMers and stakeholders to focus their efforts in support of the shared business goals.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the IBM Americas business and technology portfolio, alongside how we partner with sales and marketing to build executive and IBMer communications strategies and set communications goals that help drive IBM's overall strategy and growth initiatives.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into engaging content for all audiences.
  • Efficiently handle multiple projects, communications and competing priorities.
  • Spearheading in-person events best-practices across the Americas.


Required education

Associate's Degree/College Diploma

Required technical and professional expertise

  • 8-10+ years of experience in the field of Internal and Executive Communications. Strong knowledge or past experience in external executive communications. Excellent verbal and written English communications skills a requirement.
  • Experience in internal and executive communications planning and deployment - working with leaders on building and executing strategy, content development, project management and employee engagement initiatives; proactively surfacing needs and independently determining and advising on best communications approaches.
  • Strong writing and storytelling capability with a passion for breaking down complex topics into consumable, understandable and applicable content.
  • Efficient and highly effective project manager that can work fast while maintaining high quality and accuracy to meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative, highly organized team player who is enthusiastic about partnering across teams.
  • Curious, outcomes-focused learner who quickly develops an understanding of a wide range of subjects, and understands and applies feedback.
  • Creative thinker who innovates and can develop and execute new, effective ways of communicating.
  • Growth minded and willing to adjust ways of working and communication approaches based on current business needs and results.
  • Ability to measure and analyze data to drive decision making and internal channel optimization.


Preferred technical and professional experience

  • Direct experience with enterprise technology companies.
  • Fast, adaptable writer who is driven by a 24-hour turnaround mentality.
  • Social media editorial planning and execution.
  • Successful track record supporting a leader within a company that has a large, diverse employee population.
  • Experience with various tools and approaches to communications - including digital publishing, design, video production, metrics and email tools.
  • Agility and resilience communicating in a rapidly evolving environment.
  • Strategic communication and project management skills and ability to work on simultaneous high visibility projects.
  • Background and related experience in external executive communications or media relations is an asset.

For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
