POSITION PURPOSE

The VFX Supervisor acts as the client-facing creative Supervisor representing Image Engine. They are responsible for overseeing all the VFX work for the film, as well as creatively leading the entire visual effects team. Ultimately, oversee the final delivery of high-quality digital effects for our clients. The VFX Supervisor will provide direction and collaborate with Supervisors/Leads to ensure the creative and technical visions of the director are realized.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participate in the bidding stages, assess the shots and do shot breakdowns
  • Supervise the VFX component of a live action shoot on location
  • Work closely with the VFX Producer to ensure an accurate production schedule is setup and maintained
  • Work together with the Supervisors/ Leads to work out element, technical and R&D requirements
  • Be the point of contact with the creative leads on the client/production side in concert with the VFX Producer(s)
  • Work closely with the client(s) to ensure their vision is met, constantly improving upon the clients wishes
  • Communicate the creative direction for each shot and sequence
  • Responsible for presenting the work to the client and have final say over what work is presented
  • Conduct efficient reviews of artists work on shots
  • Provide internal sign off on final shots
  • Ensure shot submission is of the highest of standards
  • Work closely with all departments on process improvement and development
  • Mentor and develop direct reports to expand their knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Responsible for presenting the work to the client and have final say over what work is presented
  • Work with our other VFX supervisors to maintain consistent standards and processes across the studio

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 10 years' experience with high-end film based VFX pipelines, supervising on medium to large projects (300+ shots), including a minimum of 3 years as a VFX Supervisor or in a similar position.
  • Experience managing all aspects of post-production including bidding and script breakdowns, scheduling, pipelines etc.
  • Previous film industry experience with the ability to ensure artists' work is of a high standard both artistically and technically
  • Experience in supervising both on-set and in-house, overseeing CG and 2D teams
  • Previous experience of training, mentoring Artists is an asset

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Understand software packages such as Maya, Houdini, Nuke, Arnold PRMan
  • Solid knowledge of VFX shot production and its iteration process
  • Thorough understanding of color theory and film application for live-action features, including filmstock, filmgrain, colorspace and lookup tables, film processing and DI processing, as well as an eye for successful VFX integration
  • Excellent ability to communicate with crew and clients
  • Ability to lead within a strong team environment, willingness to share knowledge
  • An ability to articulate technical and creative direction to ensure successful and timely completion of VFX work in addition to being able to precisely critique work
  • A thorough understanding of the visual effects process and the ability to interpret the artistic brief from the Director
  • Excellent problem solver who can focus on detail, while maintaining the whole picture
  • Ability to work to and meet strict deadlines often under pressure
