TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate dental equipment, and other office equipment. Vision must be correctable to 20/40 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts. Requires working under stress in emergency situations or during irregular hours.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in an office environment within a clinic setting. Involves frequent contact with staff and the public. Work may be stressful at times. Contact may involve dealing with upset people.

Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Registered Dental Hygienist is responsible for providing periodontic and preventive dental care to the Centers' target population. The registered dental hygienist reports to the Chief Dental Officer.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
- Screening and evaluating patients in regard to caries risk, periodontal pathology, medical history.
- Providing clinical services, including selecting, exposing, and processing of digital radiographs, prophylaxes, supra and sub gingival scaling and curettage, root planning, procedures involving team periodontal surgical techniques, according to Clinic's guidelines.
- Providing preventive clinical and educational services, including instruction of proper oral hygiene home care techniques, tooth brushing, flossing, nutrition, need for professional care, and topical fluorides.
- Administration of local anesthetics and gross debridement in treatment of acute periodontal conditions.
- Performance of expanded duties where qualified, as delegated by dentist and governed by California law.
- Transport and set up mobile equipment in a school setting, travel to schools and other selected oral health screening sites
- Perform other tasks as needed.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Licensed as a Dental Hygienist in the State of California
- Alternative Practice Certificate is preferred.
- Knowledge and skills in delivering dental care to patients.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of current dental hygienist practices and procedures
- Knowledge of organization policies, procedures, stems, and objectives
- Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem-solving, decision-making
- Skill in developing and maintaining effective relationships with medical, dental, administrative staff, patients and public
