What's the role?

This opportunity offers the ability to work remotely from anywhere in British Columbia. Preference for candidates based on Vancouver Island.

As AVP of Internal Audit, you will report to the Chief Risk Officer and provide leadership and guidance to deliver independent, objective assurance and advice aimed at improving credit union operations. You will support the Board of Directors by ensuring the Credit Union's control environment is effective and adheres to regulatory standards. Additionally, you will develop and review Risk-Based Internal Audit Plans, assess operational management, risk management, and compliance practices, and provide recommendations for improvement.

Your duties will include:

Strategic Operations: Develop and review internal audit plans, recommend improvements, and stay updated on strategic priorities and emerging risks.
Audit Planning and Delivery: Coordinate audits, allocate resources, report on control processes, resolve significant issues, and follow professional audit practices.
Internal Control and Audit Practices: Evaluate internal controls, identify weaknesses, monitor risk profile, and assess risk tolerance.
Policy and Process Development: Update audit policies, enhance methodologies, and align policies with strategic objectives.
Planning and Monitoring: Implement audit plans, provide updates, manage audit budget, and report metrics.
Leadership and Collaboration: Lead the Internal Audit function, communicate audit observations and recommendations, and ensure open communication on risk management.

What are we looking for?
Successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Thorough understanding of internal controls, risk management, and governance processes.
Demonstrated success in conducting comprehensive audits and preparing detailed audit reports.
Ideally, you are a flexible, collaborative team player with:
Minimum seven years of experience in internal auditing or a related field, including leadership roles.
Expert knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
Superior understanding of economic and market conditions.

Career Band Range (Annual Salary) - $92,700.00 to $137,579.00

The posted salary range is designed to reflect a broad career band, encompassing a variety of roles within our organization and serves as a general guideline. Your final compensation will be tailored to your unique skills, experience, and the responsibilities of the role.
