Summary :
The Director, Acute Care Quality establishes policy, strategic direction, and operational leadership of the Acute Care quality department including quality assurance and quality improvement. Executes strategy across ThedaCare (Froedtert ThedaCare North Region). Utilizes expertise and knowledge of quality principles, process improvement, and tools to provide leadership at ThedaCare North Region for performance measurement, data collection, management, and analytics. This role will collaboratively lead quality performance and outcomes with clinical and operational leaders with accountability for obtaining the defined quality goals and targets. Translates data to actionable information and plans to inform improvement efforts and achievement of safe, high quality clinical care. Develops clinical and operational alignment to the understanding of and leadership to achieve and comply with third party payer programs and publicly reported safety and quality performance.

Job Description:

Key Accountabilities
  • Provides strategic planning, program development, labor management, and overall operational administration of the department.
  • Operational accountability for the department and effectively directs team members in a manner consistent with ThedaCare policies and values. Ensures the recruitment and retention of competent team members to meet the needs of the business operations of the department.
  • Oversees and ensures accuracy of time and attendance and payroll practices.
  • Provides leadership, administrative and management support, strategic planning, and overall direction and guidance on program development, projects, and collaboratives that support clinical quality performance improvement.
  • Works collaboratively with clinical and operations leaders in setting direction and strategic planning to develop, implement, and monitor action plans to achieve clinical and operation quality outcome success and the provision of safe, highly reliable clinical outcomes.
  • Develops annual goals and objectives for the quality management program in alignment with ThedaCare clinical and operational goals and strategies to meet and exceed established program objectives utilizing external benchmarking.
  • Leads the process for evaluating compliance of the quality program against internal and external requirements and is accountable for outcome performance.
  • Collaborates with all appropriate resources and utilizes data for analytics to review and ensure the visibility of quality performance for ThedaCare.
  • Collaborates with contract management and executive leaders to incorporate clinical and operation meaningful quality metrics into internal and external contract and incentive management that align with the achievement of ThedaCare goals and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborates with Director of patient safety activities to include sentinel/high severity event review, root cause analysis and action planning, failure mode and effect analysis, and national patient safety goal review and action planning.
  • Supports and ensures the deployment and evaluation of facility-level quality assurance/quality improvement annual plans that meet all elements of regulatory compliance.
  • Prepares and presents reports to executive leaders, the board of directors, providers, leaders, and team members in both written and oral formats ensuring all are fluently knowledgeable on current quality performance and opportunities.

Qualifications
  • Master of Science in Nursing or other healthcare related master's degree required.
  • Eight years of progressive responsibility in a leadership position to include leading teams and/or projects
  • Knowledge and experience with a wide variety of computer programs including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook. Must be proficient in EPIC electronic health record
  • Advanced training in process improvement methodologies including: Lean, Six Sigma and Change Management.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships with providers, leadership and clinical staff. Comfortable in clinical settings to assist teams at the point of care with problem solving or action plans related to RCAs. Presentation skills and ability to adapt/communicate relevant message to audience. Excellent written and verbal skills. Strong ability to coordinate, lead and execute on team deliverables.
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) by the National Associate for Healthcare Quality strongly preferred or ability to obtain within 18 months of start date.
  • Licensed RN in WI, a compact state, other appropriate clinical licensure.

  • Advanced strong analytical skills to interpret, trend and analyze complex medical data and patient outcomes
  • A strong understanding of clinical practices and patient care pathways is often necessary to effectively evaluate quality issues.
  • Capable of exercising sound judgment and making independent decisions
  • Ability to adapt to multiple complex organizational environments

Physical Demands
  • Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of twenty-five (25) pounds without assistance
  • Job classification is not exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties
