VAUGHN HISTORY and MISSION
Vaughn Next Century Learning Center ("Vaughn"), located in Pacoima, is a large urban public school within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Since the early 1970s, low student achievement had been a pattern. In 1993, tired of being helpless and hopeless, Vaughn became the first conversion charter school in the nation and was authorized by LAUSD. The charter was renewed most recently in 2018. Vaughn has over 25 years of experience as a successful independent charter school serving the district's low-income students. This previously failing elementary public school is now a full-service, community-based, K-12th charter school that assures all students are college/career ready, digitally literate, and globally competent. Vaughn operates five contiguous campuses under one charter.
JOB OVERVIEW
The Senior Accountant position is based in Vaughn NCLC's Central Office in San Fernando, California. This position offers an accounting professional the opportunity to join one of California's first independent, public, charter schools. In collaboration with the Business Team, the Senior Accountant assists in ensuring that public dollars are efficiently allocated and managed, all the while maintaining Vaughn NCLC's commitment to quality public education for the students in our community.

In collaboration with the Business Team, the Senior Accountant assists in ensuring that public dollars are efficiently allocated and managed, all the while maintaining Vaughn NCLC's commitment to quality public education for the students in our community.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting Tasks:
- Reviews accounts payable to ensure invoices, reimbursement, and credit card transactions are compliant with fiscal policies and are coded correctly per Chart of Accounts
- Leads month-end close process including bank reconciliations, general ledger and balance sheet review
- Investigates accounting discrepancies and resolves them promptly; prepares correcting or reclassification journal entries as needed
- Ensures an accurate and timely monthly, interim, and year-end reconciliation process
- Leads fundraising efforts, including tracking and training
Payroll Tasks:
- Assist the Payroll Manager with processing and reviewing payroll on a semi-monthly basis
- Reviews FMLA calculations to ensure accurate and timely administration
- Process VOE for loan applications
- Process TSA, AFLAC submissions and submits to the Accounting department for processing
- Prepare calculations for non-payments and other payroll-related adjustments as needed
- Maintain and update payroll worksheets on a per pay period basis to ensure records are current and accurate
Additional Fiscal Tasks:
- Works closely with CFO in preparation and execution of annual internal audit by collecting, preparing and reviewing requested sample data
- Prepares fiscal reports as requested by Vaughn NCLC's authorizing district both throughout the year and during the annual fiscal review
- Works closely with the business staff to ensure efficiency, compliance, and proper internal controls
- Assists in the development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the business department.
- Offers recommendations for changes in school fiscal operations
- Works on special projects as needed
- Leads the operating tasks of the Accounting Associates
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
Experience:
- 2 years of relevant accounting experience required
- Advance working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Experience with multi-locations
- 1 year of Payroll processing experience preferred (Paycom experience preferred)

SALARY/BENEFITS
- $78,000 - $88,000
- 12 months/230 days per year
- 10 sick days per year (accrued on a per payroll basis)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Upon receiving an offer of employment:
- Must pass a criminal background check (Live Scan) with the Department of Justice (DOJ)
- Must provide a Tuberculosis skin test (Mantoux) clearance within 60 days of employment
- Will be assigned mandated state training to be completed prior to the first day of employment
