Pay range for this position is $53.85 - $66.67.

What you'll be doing
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments, diagnose medical and cognitive issues and develop care plans, providing health counselling and emotional support, with a focus on health promotion, illness prevention, injury and complication
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams for early assessment, intervention and patient management
- Utilize care pathways and guidelines to ensure effective patient care from admission to discharge
- Provide on-site patient consults and coordinate care with patients, families and communities
- Maintain clear documentation, respecting patient values and ensuring ethical, legal and professional standards and boundaries
- Facilitate patient-centered decision-making, empowerment and therapeutic relationships with a sensitivity to culture, situation and family dynamics
- Assess and manage risks in emergencies, demonstrating leadership and clinical expertise
- Support the establishment of a Physician Assistant placement program
What we're looking for:
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare related field with exposure to Mental health preferred
- Membership in good standing with Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA) or Physician Assistant Certified (PA-C) (American) is required
- Certified through the Physician Assistant's Certification Council of Canada (PACCC) or National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Comprehensive knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation methodology, chemical dependency and addiction treatment, psychopharmacology (indications and side-effects) and psychotherapeutic and counselling skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of mental disorders, addiction and concurrent disorders and the treatment and principles of recovery in mental illness and addiction including suicide prevention, treatment and emergency response
- Knowledge of evidence-based best practices and issues in the care and treatment of mental disorders, addiction and concurrent disorders
- Knowledge of community, social and mental health resources as well as the Mental Health Act, as it applies to the rights and obligations of clients and staff
- Advanced assessment and diagnostic reasoning skills
- A proven leader with strong team-building, organizational and time management skills
- Active listener able to communicate skillfully and professionally with the patient and family, as well as with other internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage conflict situations and aggressive behaviour using non-violent crisis intervention and behavioural management techniques
- Accurate observation, record keeping, problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint as well as medication administration software
