Job Summary

The Associate Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for overseeing all nursing services at the facility and ensuring nursing practice meets the standards of the profession set by the Chief Nursing Executive. This position is also responsible for executing the strategic mission for the Nursing division and departments under which he/she is assigned and for integrating those services into the continuum of patient care. The strategic mission for these services is developed in collaboration with and response to the BHS Nursing strategy and the Entity operating plan which results from the BHS strategic planning process. The role is directly responsible for Nursing operations at the facility and takes operational direction from the Chief Operating Officer of the entity. The Associate Chief Nursing Officer is a member of the Senior Management Team and interacts regularly and directly with BHS Senior Administration and with members of the Board of Trustees through committee activities, activities within the entity and where appropriate, presentations to the full Board of Trustees for the Health System.

Experience
  • Seven years of experience in nursing, including both administrative and clinical background is required.
  • Three years of progressive and upper-level leadership experience is required.

Education
  • Master of Science in Nursing required.

License & Certifications
  • RN License - Currently licensed as an RN in Massachusetts
  • ANCC certification in NEA or AONL CENP required, or must acquire certification within a year of taking on the role of ACNO

  • Proven leadership skills demonstrating ability to energize and motivate staff.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with ability to relate to entire spectrum of BMC staff, trustees and corporators.
  • Strong analytical skills required to recognize service opportunities and excellent knowledge of healthcare industry including managed care.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage a budget of significant size, making logical decisions about expenditures based on patient care needs as first priority.
  • Ability to manage the interests of many diverse parties in resolving issues at the senior level including placing patient priorities first while balancing interests of physicians and other customers with affordability of the proposals submitted.
  • Ability to develop and implement a well-defined business plan for new programs or change processes.
  • Demonstrated interest in and ability to support quality improvement initiatives including demonstrated history of directing sound regulatory compliance for services for which he/she is responsible.
