Compensation Range
Annual Salary: $116,500.00 - $139,000.00 (Amount based on relevant experience, skills, and competencies.)
About This Job
The main purpose of this job is to ensure audits are carried out in accordance with department and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) standards, development of audit staff, and meeting department goals and objectives. The Audit Manager is also responsible for maintaining the reputation of the Audit Department and Commerce Bancshares, Inc. by understanding and carrying out Commerce's mission statement and core values. This role will primarily focus on Commercial Lending, Commercial Payments, Treasury, and Corporate Finance related processes and services.
This position may also be remote and located outside the Kansas City and St. Louis markets. The work location will be flexible, with the ability to be on-site and/or remote with a schedule agreed upon by manager. When business needs arise and for "moments that matter", on-site will be required.

This position will be eligible for additional compensation through performance-based incentive plan(s) that will correspond to meeting performance goals.

Essential Functions
- Lead, mentor and motivate team members to implement the department strategy and manage department workflow with guidance on departmental projects/issues, and provide coaching and development opportunities appropriate to each direct report's individual needs
- Perform all necessary management functions, including hiring, evaluations, annual increase allocations and disciplinary action as required
- Communicate decisions, priorities and relevant information to team members effectively
- Support budget management, planning and expenditure
- Assist in the development of the annual audit plan by ensuring timely and adequate completion of risk assessments and determination of audit frequency based on risks assigned
- Guide and direct the audit staff in all audit phases (planning, fieldwork, and reporting) to facilitate the identification and reporting of critical business risks
- Develop the audit staff by performing effective work paper review, preparing constructive annual and interim performance evaluations, providing training opportunities and displaying a positive and professional attitude at all times
- Effectively manage staff to accomplish department goals of meeting target dates, chargeability, timeliness of reporting, actual hour verse budget time variances and other audit metrics
- Build relationships with business unit managers to facilitate the understanding of their business in order to offer solutions which will increase audit department credibility, effectiveness, and value to Commerce
- Manage multiple assignments, including, but not limited to, audits, special projects and other administrative duties
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
- Strong understanding of the Audit industry, including knowledge of best practices
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Strong data analysis and project management skills
- Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to apply discretion and sound judgement to efficiently and effectively solve problems
- Ability to drive results and balance management of organizational risk and meeting goals of the business
- Strong leadership skills with ability to motivate team members and foster a positive team environment that gives way to collaboration and unified goals
- Outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the company, clearly expressing ideas and concepts both verbally and in writing
- Ability to remain adaptable and resilient to all situations with an optimistic outlook and cast a positive shadow that is aligned with our culture and Core Values
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master's degree preferred
- 6+ years auditing experience required
- 3+ years leadership/supervisory experience required
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certification preferred
