Position Summary: In this role, you are responsible for the fully cycle accounting of multiple entities both in Canada and the Unites States and providing guidance and support to a junior staff member.

The following job responsibilities are essential for the success of this position:
Leadership & Team Oversight
  • Supervise and mentor the junior accountant, providing guidance on reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports prepared by the junior accountant.
  • Assist with the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Act as a liaison between the accounting team and senior leadership, effectively communicating key financial insights and process improvements.
  • Mentor and support the junior accountant, assisting with training and development to enhance their skills and performance.

Process Improvement & Strategy
  • Identify inefficiencies in current accounting processes and recommend automation or optimization strategies.
  • Develop and implement best practices to strengthen internal controls and ensure compliance with company policies and regulations.
  • Lead the implementation of new accounting software or system upgrades to improve operational efficiency.
  • Assist the Manager in developing financial policies and ensure adherence to established procedures.

Budgeting & Financial Strategy
  • Take ownership of budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, providing actionable insights to leadership.
  • Lead financial planning initiatives, advising on cost-saving strategies and opportunities for business growth.
  • Provide strategic input for financial decision-making by leveraging data analytics and reporting.

Compliance & External Coordination
  • Assist with audits by preparing required documentation and acting as the primary point of contact for external auditors.
  • Assist with the preparation of tax filings and regulatory reports, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, IFRS (if applicable), and other financial reporting standards.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure timely and accurate tax filings, including sales tax, VAT, and other regulatory reports.

Inventory Management
  • Oversee the manufacturing inventory process at Vantage Hemp, ensuring the accurate tracking, recording, and reconciliation of raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods inventory levels.
  • Supervise and coordinate inventory management teams, providing guidance and training to ensure compliance with best practices, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with production, procurement, and logistics teams to align inventory levels with production schedules and forecasted demand.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of material usage, waste, and production yields, ensuring proper documentation and accuracy in inventory reporting.

All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree focused in Accounting, Finance, or related field, is an asset.
  • Minimum of at least 5 years of progressive accounting experience in a similar role.
  • Proven experience in a similar accounting role.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in using Business Central 365 accounting software and Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Ability to work well in a team setting and without significant supervision and under tight deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills are a must.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
