Role Summary:
The Manager of Board Relations will serve as a primary point of contact, facilitator, and project manager for the CPC Board of Directors. This individual will work closely with CPC's CEO, Chief of Staff, and senior leadership team to ensure smooth planning and facilitation of all board-related activities, including quarterly board meetings, committee meetings, ongoing recruitment, and onboarding of new directors. They will also support the CEO in maintaining a regular series of 1:1 touchpoints with each member of the board. The position reports to the Chief of Staff (CoS) in the Office of the CEO.

This is a full-time, hybrid role where you will work from the Manhattan office two - three days a week. The salary range is $105,000 - $130,000, dependent on experience.

What You'll Do:
- Oversee the regular cadence of board and committee meetings:
- Develop the annual schedule of quarterly board meetings and all associated committee meetings, coordinating with the CEO, board chair, committee chairs, and all board members to ensure the effective transaction of board business. Schedule special board meetings as needed, using the same process.
- Coordinate and manage all aspects of the CPC board retreat, a new annual meeting of board focused on long-term strategic direction. Partner with Corporate Communications and senior staff to manage retreat logistics and content development. Coordinate with external experts who might serve as moderators and guest speakers, as well as outside vendors, facilities personnel, and others as needed.
- Work with members of the CPC Management Committee, CPC's general counsel, and other senior leaders to coordinate and develop all board meeting materials, including agendas, presentations, minutes, and regular reporting on progress against goals. Ensure that board books are assembled and sent to all staff and board members in a timely manner.
- Support senior leadership staff assigned to a board committee to ensure that meetings are planned for and run with efficiency, and that materials are prepared and provided to board members in a timely manner.
- Manage all logistics for, and attend, all board and committee meetings.
- Support board refreshment and onboarding:
- Work closely with the CEO and members of the Governance Committee to identify, recruit, and manage board prospects, seeking to bring the board to its full complement of 15 directors.
- Work with CoS and General Counsel to develop and manage a comprehensive director onboarding and orientation protocol.
- Ensure that the CEO, and the Office of the CEO more broadly, maintain active working relationships with all board members:
- Proactively schedule regular 1:1 meetings between the CEO and each director to foster relationship-building and active thought partnership.
- Ensure that the CEO has materials and information needed for board meetings and interaction with directors.
- Manage organizational communications to the board between regular board meetings, sharing updates and requesting information when needed.
- Maintain board-related data, supporting compliance, reporting, and other organizational needs.
- Partner with the General Counsel to maintain board class lists, attendance and engagement records.
- Support the core functions of the Office of the CEO, and lead special projects as assigned by the CoS.
Skills and Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience working with senior level executives and board members, preferably in a board relations or communications role.
- Graduate degree in public administration, management or related field. Comparable work experience will be considered.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with a strong track record of success in nonprofit communications preferred.
- In particular, we seek a candidate with expertise in crafting clear, impactful messages that are targeted towards an executive-level audience. Strong ability to communicate strategically, translating detailed operational data into actionable insights that support proactive decision-making.
- Experience in managing executive communications with tact and judgment. Ability to anticipate executive needs and proactively provide relevant information.
- Proven ability to build and nurture strong, long-term relationships with partners and stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
- Skilled in creating detailed project plans, setting clear milestones, and monitoring progress to ensure timely completion.
- Ability to work extended hours as needed for board meetings or events.
