What you will do:

The OB/GYN RN is responsible for planning care with a clinical team, performing a variety of duties working collaboratively with the medical provider and care coordinators; provides patient education, conducting designated nurse visits, providing care understanding orders of a licensed practitioner and providing telephone advice and triage. The RN will also collect patient health history and educate patients and their families on treatment plans.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Assess patients' physical, cognitive, psychosocial, functional, and environmental status and identifies barriers to care and achieving desired health outcomes.
  • Participating in morning team huddles with provider and/or OB/GYN team.
  • Participate in pre-visit planning activities.
  • Prepare exam rooms and patient for examination, treatment/procedures as well as clean exam rooms after patient appointments.
  • Perform patient care procedures keeping in mind the age specific needs of the patient.
  • Knowledgeable about IUD insertion and Nexplanon insertion, with the ability to assist provider under sterile technique.
  • Familiar with Colposcopy/Vulvar Biopsy/Endometrial biopsy and being able to assist provider under sterile technique.
  • Perform blood draws (phlebotomy) in the office.
  • Refer patient to internal staff/resources and external services/agencies to address/eliminate barriers to care.
  • Collect and process specimens for laboratory testing and completes appropriate paperwork or electronic documentation necessary.
  • Assist patients in prioritizing follow-up care and setting realistic goals to support overall treatment goals, considering each patient's unique physical, cognitive, psychosocial, functional, and environmental state.
  • Provide education and reinforcement about care priorities, disease self-management, medications, diagnostics, referrals, diet, lifestyle, navigating the healthcare system, etc.
  • Promote preventive care by reviewing health maintenance that is due, including cancer and other screenings, immunizations, etc.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals and other office staff, including schedulers, patient service representatives, medical assistants, behavioral health consultants, phlebotomists, pharmacy/dispensary staff, dental staff, physical therapists, optometrists, podiatrists, addiction specialists, etc.
  • Maintain communication with private OB offices to ensure coordination of surgeries.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations as well as triage OB and GYN patients that call in.
  • Knowledgeable about completing FMLA and Short-Term Disability paperwork as well as other documents as needed by department.
  • Access EMR systems to obtain relevant documentation for provider (Epic/LabCorp/Quest, etc.)
  • Assist with the development of policies, protocols, workflows, and standing orders as needed.
  • Assist with nurse triage as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Qualifications, Education, and Knowledge
  • Full unrestricted RN license in the State of Pennsylvania
  • Medical office experience preferred, especially working collaboratively with providers, patients, and families to identify care priorities and develop realistic goals for achieving optimal health.
  • This position requires travel to, but not limited to, all CHDC sites, including meetings, off-site retreats, conferences, workshops, and outreach functions.
