Job Description:
- Must float between ICU, ER, and MedSurg units. Clinicians must be proficient in all areas.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios include ICU: 1:2, ER: 1:4, MedSurg: 1:5.
- Common diagnoses and types of patients include sepsis, CIWA, respiratory support, DKA in CCU, and Level 5 Trauma in ER.
- RNs are required to titrate drips such as insulin, vasopressors, and heparin.
- Hospital resource nurse is available from 12pm to 8am. The charge nurse in CCU does not take an assignment, whereas in ED, the charge nurse does.
- CNAs are shared between CCU and MedSurg with a 1:10 ratio; the ED has a HUC/Tech role.
- ED providers are available 24/7, and the hospitalist is onsite in CCU from 7am to 6pm with virtual support 24/7.
- Respiratory Therapists are in-house 24/7, with CPAP, BiPAP, and vents occasionally used as equipment.
- RNs in ED and currently CCU are required to read their own strips, transitioning to centralized monitoring soon.
- Scheduling is based on unit needs with consideration for block scheduling when possible.
- Weekend work is required every other weekend, with holiday requirements as needed.
- Occasionally required to be on call or standby if census is low, with a requirement to arrive within 60 minutes.
- Floating is required internally between ED, CCU, and MedSurg, with potential to float within the region.
- A 1-day orientation for paperwork, modules, and access is followed by one orientation shift in each unit, with an additional shift added if needed.
- Charting is done using the Epic system.
