Job Overview: We're looking for a seasoned Construction Inspection Engineer to lead the inspection of roads, bridges, and related infrastructure for county, city, and other local government projects. Your expertise in geotechnical, structural, or pavement engineering, along with a solid history in field inspection and quality assurance, will be crucial. You'll have the chance to work on essential local infrastructure projects and tackle diverse engineering challenges in transportation, geotechnical, and structural fields.

- Perform on-site inspections of roads, bridges, and municipal infrastructure projects.
- Ensure all construction and pavement inspections comply with AASHTO and ASTM standards.
- Oversee foundation installations for bridges and retaining walls; prior geotechnical inspection experience is a plus.
- Supervise and document materials testing, including pavement cores, soil compaction, and concrete quality.
- Utilize nuclear and electrical density gauges for field compaction testing (a plus).
- Review contractor work to ensure it aligns with plans, specifications, and safety standards.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports, technical documentation, and compliance evaluations.
- Coordinate with government agencies, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and field inspectors.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (Master's a plus).
- PE License in Illinois (required).
- 10+ years of experience in construction inspection, roads, bridges, or pavement engineering.
- Strong knowledge of AASHTO and ASTM standards related to construction inspection.
- Experience with geotechnical foundation inspections (preferred).
- Familiarity with nuclear density gauges and electrical density testing (preferred).
- Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and materials testing results.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
