Job Summary

The Associate Chief Nursing executive (ACNE) is a system level role, that will provide strategic leadership, management, development, and oversight of clinical nursing practice/programs (standards, education, quality) that optimize patient care (structure, process, and outcomes), advance nursing practice and clinical inquiry culture/nursing research. The director provides mentoring and an infrastructure for professional and clinical leadership development for the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) / Advanced Practice Specialist (APS) team, NPD team, Quality team and the Research and Scholarship team who impact patient/family, professional nursing, and health care delivery outcomes across the health system. The ACNE covers the CNE is their absence.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $300,000 - $375,000 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in hospital management/leadership, clinical education and training.
  • Proven ability to apply concepts to develop and implement programs to meet nursing practice standards and improve education best practices.
  • 3-5 years of recent Clinical Nurse Educator, Advanced Practice RN experience, or Nurse Manager experience or other equivalent leadership role/s
  • Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.
  • Knowledge of clinical education/ business software and relevant health care information technology and ability to notice technological inefficiencies and improve usage and improvement of such technology.
  • Broad knowledge of eLearning techniques, learning software and technology.
  • Proven skills to collaborate within and across departments to coordinate training and development activities and resolve problems. Interpersonal skills to maintain professional relationships with department managers and peers.
  • Knowledge of medical center, HR and / or UC policies and processes. Knowledge of relevant compliance issues. Ability to apply policy knowledge to suggest improvements to training and development programs.
  • Broad knowledge of training and development, quality improvement concepts and trends.
  • Ability to apply knowledge to meet organization needs, improve operations and achieve business success.
  • Proven ability to organize department operations in an efficient and effective manner seeking and implementing process improvements.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills to effectively communicate through all mediums and with all groups. Demonstrated abilities to listen actively, persuade, advise, counsel, and influence all levels of staff.
  • Strong Leadership skills to motivate others and inspire staff to develop their clinical expertise, master their roles, and identify specialties.
  • Project management and customer service skills to effectively manage multiple priorities in a complex, challenging environment. Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility, anticipates and effectively handles change.
  • Organizational skills include simplifying, increasing efficiency, managing multiple priorities and delegating tasks to ensure deadlines are met. Proven ability to set goals, implement training programs, evaluate results, and promote and develop others.
  • Ability to solve problems when no precedent exists. Demonstrated skill to continuously evaluate current states and identify viable options for resolution.
  • Skills to work collaboratively with all levels of clinical staff, and peers in local, national and international settings. Ability to work creatively with others and solicit and incorporate their ideas when appropriate and assess information critically and apply it appropriately.
  • Master's degree from an accredited nursing program
  • Doctoral degree.
  • Registered nurse licensed in the state of California.
  • Specialty Board Certification.

Department Description

The Center for Nursing Excellence and Innovation is a Nursing support department with four main functions: Nursing Professional Development, Nursing Quality, Clinical Practice and Research, and Nursing Continuous Improvement and Affiliate Relations. The Professional Development team includes Nursing Professional Development Specialists who oversee the training and education needs for the Department of Nursing. The Nursing Practice and Research team includes Clinical Nurse Specialists and Advanced Practice Specialists, who oversee evidence-based practice standards that optimize quality and safety patient outcomes. The Research & Scholarship team includes Nurse Scientists, a Scholarship Development Specialists and an Evidence Implementation Specialist who oversee the infrastructure for clinical inquiry, evidence-based practice, research, and innovation. The Nursing Quality team includes nursing quality analysts who oversee data production, dissemination and analytics. The Nursing Continuous Improvement and Affiliate Relations team oversees continuous improvement processes and nursing quality with affiliate organizations.
