As our company continues to grow, we are seeking a Construction Project Accountant to play a key role in managing the financial health of individual construction projects and ensuring financial stability across operations.
Position Overview

The Construction Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of construction projects, including tracking expenses, managing budgets, preparing invoices, analyzing costs, and collaborating with project teams to ensure financial goals are met. The ideal candidate will be highly detail-oriented, with a strong understanding of construction accounting principles, and a passion for ensuring projects remain profitable, efficient, and financially sound.
Key Responsibilities
Budgeting & Cost Tracking
  • Develop and maintain project budgets and cost estimates to align with financial goals.
  • Monitor actual project costs versus budgeted costs, identifying and addressing variances.
  • Measure and evaluate physical revenue compared to financial revenue to ensure accurate financial tracking.
Job Costing & Expense Management
  • Review all recorded project costs, including labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead.
  • Ensure complete and timely recording of all project-related transactions.
  • Assist in identifying cost-saving opportunities and optimizing project expenses.
Customer Invoice & Purchase Order Preparation
  • Support the process of preparing and submitting accurate customer invoices, based on project progress and contractual terms.
  • Assist in vendor purchase order preparation, working closely with project executives and managers to ensure timely procurement.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
  • Generate regular financial reports, including profit and loss statements, variance analysis, key performance indicators, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Analyze financial trends and project data, identifying risks and providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Provide ongoing financial insights and recommendations to project teams and senior management.
Change Order & Contract Management
  • Track and manage change orders, ensuring proper documentation and financial impact analysis.
  • Review and interpret construction contracts, ensuring compliance with financial terms and conditions.
Collaboration & Compliance
  • Work closely with project executives, managers, estimators, and finance teams to provide financial insights and ensure projects remain financially stable.
  • Ensure adherence to accounting standards, internal controls, and financial regulations to maintain accuracy and compliance.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in construction project management software (such as Viewpoint, Procore, or Sage).
  • Knowledge of construction cost control, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and identify trends.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
